7 month old, ADHD?

My 7 month old boy is constantly moving, will never sit still, he will try to throw himself in all directions if you are carrying him. This isn't a problem to me at all, he's independent, happy and wonderful.

My DM said to me this morning that she doesn't think it's normal how much he moves about and that I should take him to the Drs and get them to look into ADHD. My DB and I were really chilled out babies so my mum has no experience of anything else. My MIL says DS is exactly like his dad was as a baby in everyway.

Someone please reassure me that DM is being ridiculous!

I don't think there is any way a baby of 7 or 8 months could be diagnosed with ADHD. Babies don't have much if anything in the way of impulse control anyway! It is most likely you just have a very active and nosey baby. Tell your DM it is a sign of high intelligence!

Thank you for the reassurance. This is my first child so I'm easily worried! Also pg with number 2 so hormones are raging!

ADHD can't be diagnosed until they are a certain age. This is because children are naturally active and sometimes hyper. She is being ridiculous.

If it's any help my DS (7) has ADHD. There was absolutely nothing to point towards him having it until he was about 3. He was also a very lazy baby. Complete opposite to how he is now days!

My 7 year old has ADHD, he was a really relaxed baby. No signs at 7 months. My girls were both active babies, no ADHD!

Lol at your mum. Boys can often be like this (though apparently some girls are just the same too). Wait till he can walk! Mine is a perpetual motion machine! Never stops! Entirely normal.

Its quite unfair of her to get you thinking like that. My dd was the same and has always been what i call a "live wire", but that's not the same thing at all. Maybe say "i mentioned your comment to the health visitor and they laughed in my face." or just ignore.

That's ridiculous! They don't even start to look at children until they're school age.

My cousin has ADHD, as a baby it wasn't the moving around that was the problem. He was actually quite lazy and slow with his development due to the lack of attention he paid to learning. He wouldn't make eye contact or play with other children and still now has problems interacting with children his own age.

My daughter used to throw herself around when being carried. Times she would dive almost straight out of my arm because she was nosey and it's not got any better as she's got older. She's 6 and never sits still. She's constantly on the go which is healthy.
At 7 months your baby is learning about their environment, being interested in everything is a pretty good sign of development at this age.
