Nappy Wipes Warmer

Does anyone use a nappy wipe warmer? I found the Prince Lionheart brand online and I am planning on buying one just to avoid using cold wipes for my newborn. Do they really work? It costs about £24.

A little plastic tub of warm water, fresh for each change. And yes it's the same - we can get balls, a roll or a folded arrangement.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 01:58

cotton wool is cotton balls, but it also comes in strips which i use cos it is easier. ds doesnt mind room temp water so i just have some water in a spray bottle or bowl by the changing mat. i usually put chamomile and grapefruit seed extract in it too for nappy rash. sometimes i use reusable wipes as well but i dont always get them washed ready for the next day so that is when i use cotton wool. if you wanted it warm i suppose you could use fresh each time or warm it up in microwave or keep reusable wipes on radiator.

Quootiepie · 20/12/2006 02:34

the warmness closes pores back up, after the wipe does its thing. As I said, like when they put a warm flannel over your face after a facial.

i thought warmness opened the pores - that's why they do those facial sauna things?

Quootiepie · 20/12/2006 02:40

o, maybe its the fact they open the pores and the wipe can do its magic - yeah, that makes more sense

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 02:49

although if you don't want to faff around with a fresh bowl of warm water each time, i do know one woman who puts reusable wipes in their soaked in her own bottom wiping solution.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 02:53

i was just tryin to recall if i had ever been in a baby changing facilities without a sink and can't. do they all have sinks? i think what i would do if lo really hated cold wipes, would be to run wipe under warm tap, spray on nappy solution and wipe.

katandnat · 20/12/2006 03:36

I think it's very much a matter of personal choice, depending on all sorts of things, such as how cold your house is. Lots of people keep their house warm all the time, so that no-one ever feels cold, even when naked. Certainly, I found the advice to keep baby's room at 18 celsius felt too cold if I was bathing them, I felt cold myself, maybe my thermometer is wrong. If you keep the house warm then there is no need for one at all, in fact it would probably make them too hot. Otherwise keeping the wipes on a radiator has the same effect, although obviously the radiator isn't on all the time!

It depends more on your baby and whether you want to use wipes. It's certainly quicker and easier to use wipes than anything else, and if your baby cries when you wipe it's bum with a cold wipe, you might want to consider it, but I agree with most people here that it's a waste of money. Sometimes I think they have groups of people sat around a table discussing what gadgets they can make that might sell rather than approaching it from the other end, of what might people actually need to make life easier.

jabberwocky .. I'm sorry I simply don't believe you .. you must be taking the mick

baby wipe warmer .. and you've got 2 children ... PMSL ... no way on earth .. no way

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 03:56

will someone PURLEASE invent a baby translator. now for that i would pay a small fortune!

jabberwocky · 20/12/2006 05:51

errrr, no not joking, twig

a) I'm certainly not going to go down the hall to get a bowl of warm water each time - sorry that's the one I find hard to believe

b)we don't have a radiator, those are evidently much more common over there than in the US

c) I thought most people were objecting to a warmer b/c of money. I don't really see what the big deal is otherwise. Wipes aren't cold, baby is more comfortable = no-brainer to me.

The OP asked if anyone used one and if they worked. I'm simply answering her question.

earlgrey · 20/12/2006 06:39

They've just got bM over a barrel - she's a new mum to be and obviously wants the best for her baby.

I had to do a reality check on one of those things you put nappies in that seals them - bear in mind it was 6 years ago. Friend had bought them, and there was still a whiff in the air. Best place for (disposable) - I'm going to get shouted at, I know it - nappies is outside in the dustbin.

When I went out, I took a thermos flask of hot water and cotton wool. Lots of baggage, but then who can't go out with a new (or even not so new) baby without lots of baggage?

Send me one of those chocolates you've saved buying it!!!

ATurkeyBotherer · 20/12/2006 09:57

I used a tub of reusable wipes with some solution poured on, and they weren't cold

'Wipes aren't cold, baby is more comfortable = no-brainer to me.'

ffs do you live in an igloo? would you otherwise keep your wipes in the freezer? how cold can a wipe possibly be at room temperature in a modern house with a baby in it?

and you're not bathing them naked, you're wiping their bum. it takes 60 seconds max.

If you've got £24 spare to spend on this kind of bollocks you should send it to a charity that deals with children with real problems, not slightly chilly arses

TwinkleInSantasEye · 20/12/2006 10:08

Well I have to go to the bathroom anyway to get a terry nappy out of the airing cupboard so it's no hardship filling a tub with water while I'm there!

ATurkeyBotherer · 20/12/2006 10:10

I think jaberwocky and her baby must stay in one place all the time, sat next to the wipes warmer, waiting for some action

'down the hall' is hardly down the street. don't you move around your house at all?

jabberwocky · 20/12/2006 11:37

OMG, I hardly came on this thread to get abused by you people. I guess this has turned into another "nasty" MN thread. We have a changing table in the nursery, ffs. It is already stocked with everything I need to change a diaper so I don't understand the "moving around the house" and "waiting for action" comments. Having a wipes warmer is just a bit of a luxury. I am mystified as to the objections some of you have.

babemom, if you want one, get it. At least you have gotten feedback from one person who has actually used one.

earlgrey · 20/12/2006 12:19

JW, I'm sorry you feel that way. There are bound to be people who help on MN, albeit not in the most tactful way.

Think the long shot about wipe warmers is ditch the idea and spend it on something more useful, like yourself

Mum2FunkyDude · 20/12/2006 12:30

babeMom, the cold wipe thing you can overcome by just quickly rubbing the wipe between your hands before you use it. The warmer is just a gadget.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 12:36

yes the wipe warmer could be useful but it is a luxury. you don't need it. if you have other things to get that you do need then spend the money on those instead.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 20/12/2006 12:46

Oh JW I'm sorry - I was just teasing! Certainly wouldn't want you to think I was being deliberately nasty!

babeMom · 20/12/2006 13:13

I think it would defeat the purpose of this forum if people get offended and cannot freely express themselves without the fear of sarcastic or near-rude comments. Let's be abit more sensitive and careful with our comments so we can truly benefit as well as enjoy being part of a thread.
Not preaching...am i?

babemum I suggest you hang around and actually get to grips with the kind of site mumsnet is .. if you want 'isn't everybody wonderful nice and agreeable' in a polyanna way I can suggest babyworld or similar as sites

here we tend to the sarcastic, ironic and taking the piss .. it is what makes us great

MerryChipmonkAndAHappyNewey · 20/12/2006 13:58

ATurkeyBotherer, your post to jabberwocky did, I'm afraid appear quite nasty, even if that's not the way you meant it. I was a bit shocked at the tone of it tbh. I think, babeMom there are some things that "catch on" in some countries but not in others, I have noticed a lot of references to wipes warmers on US sites but I believe that in the States a lot of people don't use sterilisers while they are almosr universal over here. Have to say I do love buying baby stuff and have often bought things I could have done without!

babeMom · 20/12/2006 14:01

I havent said i want everyone to be nice and agree to everything and if i wanted to be a part of babyworld forum, i guess it will be my choice!
All i implied in my previous message is that we can still communicate with one another without the need for sarcasm and STILL the message will be passed across.
One man's meat is another's poison so of course I expect a difference in opinion btw members of the forum and i havent in any way complained about that.

BabeMom don't go to Babyworld! Most of us don't bite! (Apart from Twiglett, but we're having her teeth removed next week, after that it'll be safe!)
