Nappy Wipes Warmer

Does anyone use a nappy wipe warmer? I found the Prince Lionheart brand online and I am planning on buying one just to avoid using cold wipes for my newborn. Do they really work? It costs about £24.

if you use reusable wipes (and reusable nappies of course) you can run them under the nice warm tap

this is of course the best course of action cos I do it

I guess it really comes down to whether you mind spending the money on it. If ds2 uses it as long as ds1 we'll have gotten 4 or 5 years of use from it. So, worth the initial expense for us.

Furball · 18/12/2006 19:56

jabberwocky - out of interest, do you just leave it pluged in all the time? or does it warm up quick enough when changing a nappy?

SchneeBallFight · 18/12/2006 20:01

When the DSs were newborn and I was going to bed for the night I would stick the box of wipes on the radiator (on very low) and leave them there - this would mean that I could change DS without shocking/waking him with cold wipes in the night if required.

tiredandgrumpy · 18/12/2006 20:07

I have a friend in the US who swore I would need one - she reckoned they were indispensible. Never did get one and ds never complained. Now dd is starting to object - the wipes do get a bit chilly now the house gets cold. Still, she's a fussy little madam and has me wrapped round her little finger, so I still won't be investing!

jabberwocky · 18/12/2006 21:52

I leave it pluged in all the time unless we are going out of town.

jabberwocky · 18/12/2006 21:52

"plugged"

UniSarah · 19/12/2006 17:27

just curious- what wattage is it? how warm does it make the wipes?

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 17:30

warm wipes are supposed to be more hygenic - like when you have a warm flannel put over your face after a facial

babeMom · 19/12/2006 20:15

It doesnt say but I am sure it will be plugged into a normal socket in the house. Have a look at it here: www.princelionheart.com/site_uk/n_bc_0231.html

I would have thought that babies don't liek there bum being being wiped more because it's a WET wipe than the temp of it but that might just ne me cause if I stand on a wet patch I HATE it

blueamema · 19/12/2006 21:07

wow... the things you can buy these days!!

I do warm water and cotton wool for poo bum, lovely and soft. (unless were out)

Anyway in this weather your hands are probably colder than the wipes so you would have to wear gloves as well!

jabberwocky · 19/12/2006 22:09

The fewer wipes in it, the warmer they are. Even full they are still nicer than straight out of the box/package. I use the newborn ones that are actually cloth, just extremely thin and so still disposable.

Twohootsunderthemistletoe · 19/12/2006 22:25

babemom Bless your cotton socks - you sound like you'll make a lovely mum

But have to say another site I sometimes go on had a really good thread on 'crappest things I wasted my money on for baby' type of thing and I think wipes warmer was about no 2 or 3 on the list!

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and your little one when he/she arrives!

ATurkeyBotherer · 19/12/2006 22:30

oh lordy

look at this

it's a cushion that you buy to put in the bottom of your wipes warmer to stop them 'browning'- you have to replace them regularly

the manufacturers must be splitting their pants with laughter that they can shift this crap

jabberwocky · 19/12/2006 22:35

Actually that pad is essential to the whole warmer. Without it the wipes dry out very quickly.

ATurkeyBotherer · 19/12/2006 22:41

suckers

TwinkleInSantasEye · 19/12/2006 23:11

Babemom - must say my DH and I had a good laugh about wipe warmers when I was pg with DS. Seriously, though, I am getting increasingly annoyed at the amount of stuff that is marketed purely to part first-time parents from their cash.

And LOL at the comment about cold hands. DS doesn't flinch at the wipes (when I use them, I'm a warm water and cotton wool girl too), but touch him with my cold hands? That does make him jump!

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 19/12/2006 23:52

DONT. DO. IT. you do not need one. if you really don't want lo to have a cold bottom use warm water and cotton wool!

jabberwocky · 20/12/2006 00:37

So enlighten me on the process of warm water and cotton wool. Do you get a bowl of water for each change or what? Also, I'm in the US so not too familiar with the term cotton wool. Is this what you call cotton balls/rounds in the UK? Or is it squares of cotton fabric (like re-usable wipes)?
