Im sure that since you have helped so much then the mother will be very obliging. My MIL and FIL have this problem also and may lose their grandchildren so I do feel for you.

could you arrange something regular with her? erhaps she could stay with you after school and overnight perhaps on a friday? it would give her mum(or dad?) a break too.
