4mo on antibiotics

Hoping for some help with my usually cheerful little 4mo ds. He's been all stuffy and bunged up, chesty cough & wheezy so we took him to the GP yesterday and he's been given a 7 day course of low dose Amoxicillin.

We are already propping his mattress up at night and have been using snuffle babes, but I was hoping there might be some advice on how to generally make him feel a bit more comfortable?

He is usually such a happy baby but he's really struggling with this. Does anyone know of anything in particular that can help or make him feel a bit less crap?

He's my first and I'm a bit lost as to what I can do for him

Chest, back and a thick layer on the soles of the feet with socks over works a treat believe it or not!

Ds1 (6yrs) and ds2 (6week) both have snotty noses and we have started using humidifiers at night, seem to make a difference.

Vaporub on feet under socks and also we vought one of those snot suckers, a bulb thing that sucks snot out noses? Ds2 hates it but have cleared quite a lot of snot with it

Feet as was advised by many! And we put it on his vest/sleepsuit rather than his chest because the health visitor said last time we used it that was what was causing his eyes to get all gungy :s

Thanks topsy I didn't know if the snot sucker things were any good or just a bit of a pointless buy. I'll see about getting one tonight when dp gets home

Are humidifiers expensive?

Take him in the bathroom, close the door, run the shower on hot & let the room fill with steam, May loosen some phlegm, help with the wheeze and help his breathing.
Extra fluids will help loosen the phlegm and entity nose.

Have a look on nhs choices website for top tips on every conceivable child/baby illness. It's very good.

Thanks everyone. I'll go have a look on nhs. Our shower isn't working atm but I can have a hot bath later, help him feel better and me feel better after having a snotty baby stuck to me all day!

When DD had cough and chest infection, she was waking every hour, making herself sick through coughing, we put her a bit more upright but I couldn't get a humidifier, so looked up a 'hack' wet towels on a warm/radiator instead, she slept through the night and it seemed to do the trick.

Calpol do plug ins which we swear by for both boys if they're bunged up, really helps them at night, and clears our noses too!
It's grim, snotty babies are so sad, hope he gets better soon.
