Hypothetical situation.

Younger children away with mum over the weekend, older child (12) at home with DH.

Older child invites friend to a party, which he's going to with DH.

Friends since reception, now at different high schools. Parents have become friends, socialising occasionally.

Question:

Would you invite older child to stay overnight so that they spend part of Sunday together too.

As the other parent, would you allow your 12 year old son to stay overnight with his friend, and his father, without mum being there?

Yes, no problem at all if you know both the parents.
