question re Moby wrap sling

Hi all,

I've got a nearly 6 week old DS who refuses to sleep anywhere but in my arms or sling, so I've got a Moby wrap which works well and he dozes off the minute he gets in. However, no matter what I do and how tight I tie it at the back, he always end up too low after a while. Just gradually dropping from the right position where I'm able to kiss his head to a very low one. What am I doing wrong?

Are his legs tucked in or do you tie it with legs out? Also how much does he weigh?

I use the tutorials on YouTube for help. Also It is a bit harder to tie them in when they're so little. Gets so much easier when they gain a bit of neck/upper body control. Plus you get better at it too.

He weights over 4kg now I'm sure (hasn't been weighted for couple of weeks though) I tie it with his legs tucked in, trying to get him in a frog like position. I also learned it from YouTube videos. Seems like I'm doing everything right but he keeps sliding down. Not sure if it might be to do with the knot at the back that's not too tight?

Ok, so he's not too tiny. Shouldn't be the knot, if that's too tight it might just dig into you. Is the material well spread out across your shoulders? Any bunching anywhere will cause it to loosen as you move around.

No it's not well spread at all! I always struggle with that bit. So that's what it is then! Will try and spread it all out better next time. Didn't know it can make it loose!

So true I do feel like a kangaroo, actually same feeling as being pregnant only he hangs outside now! (You can probably tell just how low he drops sometimes, ha!)

It won't be the knot but the whole thing being too loose - when you put it on it should be tight like a clingy t-shirt, pulling the slack out as you go - the stretch is what makes space for baby rather than the need to leave any looseness in the wrap if that makes sense? Before squish goes in you could check that there's just enough space inside if you put your hands inside in a Kline of praying position and pull the fabric away - there should be resistance and not more than a few cms space. It'll feel snug initially then loosen up once baby settles down into it. Always worth a once-over at a sling meet if there's one near you?

Hopefully that'll do the trick. Do you tie in front of a mirror? That helped me in the early days.

DoingTheSwanThing,thank you, that actually made a lot of sense, I definitely don't let it be as tight as a snug t shirt. I see what you mean about stretchiness making room for baby.

I have got the following advice from the sling consultant regarding a sagging baby:

Try this....

Once you have tied it, but before you put baby in....Put your hands inside the cross and push out hard in a sort of prayer motion. If there's enough room for your baby then go for it. If too loose then feed slack to knot and retie. If too tight then undo knot slightly and retie.

I found this too & felt that it got worse as bay got heavier. Couldn't use the moby after DD was 7 months and then gave up on slings altogether as my back hurt!

Probably not super helpful but I found the moby wrap just wasn't stretchy enough for me and switched to a boba stretchy when my DS was about 7 weeks old. The material is slightly different and seemed to be a lot more elastic so I could tie it on my really tightly and then DS could be popped in and out all day without the hassle of retying.
