Christmas Eve box?

Hi everyone,

I would really like to do a Christmas Eve box for my son. They sound like a great way to give a little something before the big day. There are plenty of ideas out there for what to put in the box BUT....
I am really struggling on where to find a nice Chrismassy box from that I can re-use each year??
I don't fancy covering a cardboard box in wrapping paper and I know lots have mentioned they have gorgeous boxes that they bought but where from??
I know I've left it rather late! So are there any high street shops that sell them?
Any advice would be great.

No no no. Presents are for Xmas day. Having presents on Xmas eve dissipates the magic. If you want to give him pjs a new book or a cup of hot choc or a DVD do it but not in some elaborate gift giving event.

Keep Christmas special! ( waves placard)

I love the box idea....I guess your choices are limited due to the date but you could check not on the high street or failing that go to someone like homebase and buy a box to decorate.
Did dissapating one day I am all for stretching it out :)

Paperchase always sell lovely strong gift boxes, some large ones too. Also Homebase do Christmassy lidded tubs for storing decorations that would work well.

But mouldy, santa doesn't come unless you are wearing your new pj's!

I pop DDs things in a pretty bag with an annual to keep her and mil busy whilst I'm busy.

B and m bargains had lovely boxes. Cardboard but looked like a wooden chest, with christmas eve box on it.

Or why not ask your children to decorate a box and then sprinkle magic dust and see what happens

Once we were past the Santa age, my mum spread it out, starting with a Christmas Eve present, then a morning present, table present, pudding present, present orgy after lunch and then bedtime stockings. It was absolutely brilliant and kept the magic going all day, rather than it being a bit flat by 9am!!! Plus it meant my mum got to enjoy watching it rather than running back and forth to the kitchen all the time and ditto my dad with all the clearing up. So I think it's a great idea.

I would suggest this - pretty paper box from paper chase or John Lewis this year. If it goes down well and looks like becoming a tradition, you can get more long lasting personalised boxes somewhere like notonthehighstreet for next year onwards!

I have only ever come across this on MN. I didn't know that Christmas pyjamas and Christmas Eve boxes were a "thing" until joining this forum. I don't know anyone in RL who does this.

I'm 43 and we always got new pjs to unwrap on Christmas Eve. I think it was mums way of making sure we looked half decent on Christmas morning. It is a tradition I have carried on and my dds still look forward to it at the age of 23 and 18

TK Maxx have loads of lovely gift boxes, nice sturdy ones with magnetic closures or suitcase type metal closures etc which would last a long time.

Never heard of this before (and my DCs have never mentioned it either, thankfully!). I have bought them all new matching onesies for Christmas Eve though.

What sort of things do others put in them apart from pj's?

I always got a book and then stuff like an edible treat (alcoholic in older years!) and something like perfume or lipgloss. For younger children, a book or an annual, maybe a special DVD to watch, bubble bath??

I bought a mache one from Hobbycraft for £5.99 and decorated it with felt, buttons and painted mache letters.

We do:
New PJs
The Grinch (60s version) DVD
Night Before Christmas book
Popcorn
Gingerbread men
Hot choc
New toothbrush
Tinti bath colour
Santa flannel

I've bought the wooden crate stargirl mentions from IKEA and then stencilled it and added decoration. Perfect size and sturdy for use in coming years

Paperchase Asda B&M and John Lewis have nice boxes Asda ones are pretty sturdy.

Most people in Liverpool get Christmas Eve PJs we also get Christmas Day Boxing Day and NYE clothes which I'm told is strange

I got a nice lidded box from Card Factory.

Have put in ours (for DD age 2.5):

New pjs
Choc buttons
Lush bath bomb
Book
Slipper socks

All things to ease an excited child towards bed!!
