It is a texting app like WhatsApp I think, but is it just for people they already know or can they be messaged by randomers?

I have only heard of it in a letter from DS's junior school advising not to let them use it. Irrelevant to us as he doesn't have a device to put apps on.

Thanks! Life before smart phones was so much easier!

Ours use it. Video chat and msgs.
You have to accept friend requests before chatting.
I'd be interested to know why your school recommended not using spider

There are privacy options so only people who know their email addresses can msg them/friend them. Ours use it mainly for group video chats/msgs.

Like anything online there are risks but it's about taking sensible precautions.

My ds uses it to video call me when he's at his dads. I only installed it for that reason. It's just like Skype really.

Just gone back to find the letter it says:
"if your child is contacted by an app called oovoo the material to which they will be exposed is likely to be highly unsuitable"
Like I said that is all I know about it and DS doesn't have any app using devices only the family PC.
