!0 year old girl...what do they actually do?

Im just wondering what the majority of 10 year old girls do in their spare time. What do they play with? What do they do? Any interests?

We haev concerns about ours but the only ones I know are polar oposites so wondered what the norm was.

Any insight would be great! Thankyou

The ten year olds I know are into netball, guides, gymnastics, drama, swimming. They also like reading, listening to music, shopping, cinema, hanging with their friends.

I've got one who's a little older, so thinking about what she's been doing for a while:

a) sport - loads of it: tennis, running, netball, kayaking, riding. Plus ballet, and forcing me to watch lots of routines.
b) crafty stuff - origami, drawing, attempts at dressmaking
c) watching lots of telly/DVDs

Reading, drawing, making movies on her tablet, rock climbing, baking, writing stories, Guides, playing Minecraft, and (still) playing with her Playmobil or stuffed toys (schools, typically). And tormenting her brothers; that's very popular.

Ok she:

1. doesnt like to get out of bed or get changed/washed and has been known to sleep in clothes
2. she plays with barbies and make believe plays with them
3. reads / writes stories
4. doesnt particularly like being outside
5. has a mild obsession with One Direction but likes listening to music
6. drawing

Should add, we think pubity is starting so that might be a factor.

Does this seem ok then?

My nearly 11 year old loves her animals, we have chickens, rabbits, a dog and a fish tank. She has recently started tag rugby and she loves it. She reads a lot and she plays with her younger brother.

That's the good stuff. She also hikes up her school skirt so it's shorter when she thinks I don't see her and she experiments with her hairstyle and her taste is so trashy ;)

That definitely sounds normal. If she is really struggling to get up she may need more sleep, but otherwise sounds like most 10 yr olds, who start to like staying in bed more than going to school!

The other things make her sound quite creative, maybe it would be a good idea to encourage her to take some exercise in some way as most of her interests you mentioned are not very active. A not too pressurized dance class ,if such a thing exists, would be good if she likes music.

Sounds exactly like me when I was 10 :)

I didn't like being outside (or showering, for that matter!) because I got cold easily. Perhaps if you can give her some advice about layering clothes efficiently to keep warm, that would help. I still struggle with this and get it wrong even though it seems like it should be an easy/obvious thing.

She sounds fine. Mine spends all day reading in bed if she can. She is not intetested in clothes and would wear the same things every day. She also writes a lot and plays imaginative games. Doesn't like any organised sports.

Girls at this age seem to vary a lot
Some have phones, spend a lot of time on Youtube, are starting to be interested in boys etc. Others, including my dd, seem a lot younger but that is not a problem.

Mine is almost 10yrs old and likes to sleep in clothes if she is able to sneak into bed undetected.

She goes outside in the summer if her friends are playing out but is more of a homebody at this time of year.

She likes writing stories and lists. She's only recently got into reading for enjoyment so books are a fairly new thing.

She likes watching Youtube and playing various games online.

She loves to draw. Half of the house seems to have been taken over by her notebooks (the paper variety) and discarded sheets of paper.

She usually does one after-school club that's held at the school, and also has a music lesson once a week.

She's mad about minions too, so anything minion-related too.

My 10 year old is rather strong willed. She likes drawing, writing stories, reading, making things, playing on her scooter, role play games, playing minecraft and silly games on her tablet.

She'd happily go weeks without showering, isn't bothered by the way her hair looks and would rather wear the most comfortable clothes which fall into her path than look for something 'nice' and clean to wear.

Ah thankyou everyone, you've made me feel so much better we'll maybe not be so hard on her now then! I will be persistant with the showering though... one pet peeve of mine/ours

Minecraft, football, netball, skyping (or whatever it is now) friends, winding up her brother, reading.

takes it off to leave the house.

3) doesnt particularly like being outside - yes although will happily walk miles once we get somewhere but moans endlessly beforehand
4) has a mild obsession with One Direction hmm but likes listening to music - Taylor Swift not 1D but yes
5) drawing - yes

She's fine, I've got no worries and I don't think you should either

What's helped with showering is writing out a weekly plan with my DD. We use one of those pads with 7 days marked out on each sheet. We go through it and write on homework, one off events, piano practice and showers/hair wash . It's stuck to the front of the fridge.
