ds (4) extreme itching

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what this could be. Last night, for a few hours, ds (age 4) was going mad with an itchy penis. He couldn't stop scratching and was actually really upset and irritated by it. He eventually got to sleep when I gave him a cold compress to put on it to relieve the itching. I had to leave for work this morning at 6am so haven't heard how he is this morning.
I did look at it and it looked fine- a bit red at the tip but nothing unusual I don't think.

Any idea if this is normal at this age? Should I bring him to doctor?

I don't think that's normal and would take him to a Dr if it persists. Piriton might help?

I agree give him some piriton and see what happens. In the meantime give the laundry an extra rinse in case it's the detergent you're using. Do a maintenance clean on the washer, if it persists take him to the GP.

Thrush? I think I'd ask GP too, sounds v uncomfortable.

Definitely doesn't sound normal. My daughter had a very itchy vagina at night, and it turned out on close inspection that a threadworm has got lost on exiting her anus and wiggled up the wrong hole. She was in great distress. I'm not convinced that a worm could find its way into the tip of a penis, but... maybe? Any other signs of threadworms?

Thanks all. So we looked again at bath time and this eve it was quite swollen and ds was whimpering away saying it was sore. So dp brought him straight up to our out of hrs clinic here who sent him to the children's hospital as it needs to be dealt with straight away:(((((
Oh god I'm so upset.
So dp is waiting to be seen now with ds. But apparently the foreskin has never come down so they will need to prise it now and it will be v v painful procedure for my little boy:(((

Feel so bad for not knowing foreskin should have been separated by now... Ds is sooooo private and never ever complains. Didn't think about it to be honest!! Can't believe this has happened now :(

I can't offer advice but I'm sorry you feel so bad. It isn't your fault, I probably wouldn't have known either. Hope it's a quick procedure and he's home and recovered very soon.

But how would you of known because you aren't meant to force it back and some little boys havent seperated by that age. Don't be too hard on yourself. Obviously you will be upset at the fact he is in hospital and needs medical intervention but DO NOT blame this on yourself!

Just to add also, I hope he is okay. I'm sure he will be.

Oh thank you so much ladies. You're so nice!!! I'm not going to dwell on if it's my fault or not but will focus on gorgeous little ds. I think it'll be a traumatic procedure for him so will need lots of tlc after. I've emailed work to say I won't be in tmrw and need day off. Just want to cuddle ds all day tmrw!!!

They've just seen nurse and waiting for doc but will be a while. Long night. Will let you know how it went. Thanks all for your kind messages.
