Possibly the reason more people aren't signing is that it's not clear what the petition is for.

In principle a petition is a statement from all the signatories of what they want to be done. This one is a personal account by one young mother of what Surestart has meant to her (a very well-written personal account, by the way, but because it's so personal it's hard for a complete stranger to sign up to... signing a petition (effectively a letter) that says "I moved to Brigdwater just over 1 year ago" when you didn't will seem odd to many) with no indication of what it's actually asking for. The national Government to reverse the decision that closes down Surestart? An undertaking from someone (who?) that existing Surestart groups initiatives will be incorporated into the new structure? Additional funding from local government to keep the local Surestart groups running even after the new scheme comes in?

A lot of people won't sign petitions if those sorts of things aren't clear.

i'm confused what do you mean by "i moved to bridgewater over one year ago when you didn't".

the petition is to stop the governement pulling funding on sure start groups across the uk .. isn't it made clear? maybe i'll have a word with her see if she can make it a bit clearer.
