ds anxiety about doing no.2 - how to deal

:)

I have asked a few times here now for advice about other issues, and everyone seems very friendly and knowledgeable, so I thought I'd ask again.

DS is 5. 2 weeks ago he had a tummy bug, no sick but he had terrible diarrhoea and felt very sorry for himself. He also pooed himself during this episode, something he hasn't done since he was a toddler.

Since then, every time he needs a poo, hes cried, sometimes hysterically, screaming about how he doesn't want it to be runny and hurt his tummy. He won't believe me when I tell him he's fine, and even after he has been and its normal, he still believes his next one will be runny.

He's also taken to 'checking' himself, at least a couple of times a day, to see if hes pooed himself.

He goes mental any time he feels any sensation in his tummy, because he believes it will lead to diarrhoea.

How can I help my boy? Reassurance alone doesn't appear to be working.

Hi, we're moving this thread over to our Parenting topic now, at the OP's request.

Hopefully some MNers will be along soon with some advice. Flowers
