Securing the Christmas tree

How do people secure their Christmas trees so that toddlers don't pull them down on themselves?

No idea! Following

Last year I put three or four nails in into the wall, vertically following up the trunk, then fastened some green twine around the trunk of the tree and extended it to the wall and wrapped it around the nails. So it was tethered to the wall in several places. As it was ds (who was 1 but walking then) didn't really bother with it after a day or so. I put cheap kiddie decorations at the bottom and my nice ones at the top!

We have a very solid stand (German weighted) now that makes it virtually impossible to topple but when we had a cat we used to put the tree in the window and tie the top of the tree to the curtain pole. That meant at worst it was wonky when she jumped up and attacked it (every bloody day) but couldn't actually topple over.

Thanks all. What do you do about the nails in the wall after Christmas?

We put ours on a table in a playpen!

My mum puts a hook (one of the screw-in type) in the ceiling directly overhead and ties it to that. Works a treat.

we have a tree climbing cat too - screw in wall, string tied to tree and screw - wall's cream so hardly shows

after Christmas remove screw, fill tiny hole and sand and paint over. Assuming you have spare paint...

My grandfather put a big screw with a loop head in the wall probably about five feet up, and used string to tie the tree to it. The screw was there all year round.

We put ours in the prison playpen too - worked brilliantly Smile

I second the table in a playpen - could never get my DD in the thing so at least it got used for something

Themodernuriahheep · 08/11/2015 00:45

We put it in the playpen. The only problem was that I could no longer then it in it to get away from the toddler myself..Grin
