Gro bags - what to wear underneath

For anyone that uses gro bags. I'm about to try them soon. It says to put a vest and sleepsuit underneath the 2.5 tog when the room is about 18 which ours usually is at night. This seems like a lot of layers. If I just use a vest though I need to get ones with sleeves as surely otherwise his arms will get cold? What do people put under the gro bags?

Just a sleepsuit at the mo for DS (9m) - last winter the same although it wasn't super cold here (SW) and he was swaddled over his bag in a light cloth so would've been as good another layer I guess.... Probably pop a best on in Nov/Dec depending? We put the heating on in kids room when it gets chillier tho so have to see! Confused
HTH?!

I usually do vest in summer, vest + sleepsuit in winter, and vary it depending on the expected temperature. Right now (in Scotland) she's in vest + sleepsuit. It's probably about 16-18C in her room at night.

Sleepsuit or long sleeve vest with 2.5 tog atm whilst the room is about 18-19, if it drops below 18 we use a vest too. She got too cold last winter otherwise. If you're worried about overheating check if the back of neck or chest feels too warm, but remember babies need a layer more than us, so if you're in bed with pj's and duvet, they need vest, pj's, and sleepsuit.

Long sleeve vest and 2.5 tog bag. But she rolls in with me if she gets cold so I start her with a thin blanket too and if it gets too chilly she cuddles up for comfort!

If it's 18 I only put mine in a long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog

I put ds in a short sleeved vest and sleep suit under his gro bag but I'll probably make it a long sleeved vest when it gets colder.

Vest and sleepsuit.

Minesril · 12/10/2015 18:44

Vest and sleep suit - single glazed house though!

Currently 18.5 degrees in DD room. By morning will be around 17 degrees. She's wearing a sleep suit. When it gets colder, will put her in short sleeved vest and sleep suit.

Ds is in a vest and sleepsuit and a thin blankets over the top. I think my bedroom can get pretty cold at night haven't got a thermometer his hands are always cold in the morning but the rest of him is toasty warm

My seven month old is in a 1.5 tog with a shirt sleeved vest and sleep suit on. Two year old is also in a summer gro bag wearing a long sleeved vest only in a 19 degree C room. After a bit of trial and error it's what 'feels right' and when your child sleeps best. Mine seem to like it on the cool side. It used to drive me a bit mad trying to work out the recommendations.

Short sleeved vest, sleep suit and 2.5tog bag. Draughty Victorian terrace here. Not sure how cold it gets but pretty chilly. Will move to long sleeved vest later and if necessary a padded sleeper under the grobag as well. Hate heating on at night so baby will have to layer up
