Constipated 3 week old??

Hi, I have a 3 week old who is formula fed and usually does a poo every other day but we are now on day 3 and he still hasn't had a poo. For the past couple if days he hasn't been his self, throughout the whole day he is bringing his legs up in pain and going red in the face as if he is forcing something. And when I put him down he cries hysterically but stops when I cuddle him. When he does usually poo the consistency is normal so I'm not sure if he is constipated or if it is something else. Any help will be gratefully appreciated Smile

It does sound like it. I've discovered the ready to feeds help things along for DD, could be worth a try

My DS is FF and goes every other day. Occassionally he'll go 2 days without a dirty nappy - when he does go the consistency is normal.

He does make a real song and dance about going - straining and making quite a noise (usually when we're somewhere quiet, like the Drs waiting room!) and takes a good 20 minutes to finish going.

He also has a habit of going red in the face and brining his knees up, but i put this down to wind.

Id try not to worry too much unless when your LO does go, its hard. In which case give the Dr a call and get some Lactulose

My DS took about 4 weeks to get used to his formula and do yellow poos every day. Before that he would gripe a lot, and poo was occasionally green. I think their digestive system takes a few weeks to mature- especially on formula- and get used to things and then it sorts itself out. I'd say if it's still a problem at 6 weeks then see a gp but until then it's fairly normal

Have you tried giving him some cooled, boiled water in a bottle? A few sips would be enough and always worked when DD was tiny.

My son also has this problem
I give him cooled boiled water once a day or maybe twice a week and it solves the problem
