Can someone tell me about Star Wars?

So, I have two dds age 4 and 2. They've been invited to a Star Wars fancy dress party next month. I'm quite a geeky type myself and am happy to run them up a couple of tiny Jedi costumes as I think this would be too cute, and dust off some lightsaber toys of my and dp's pre children days that are still in the garage.

But, I wouldn't mind showing the dds something so they have an idea what Star Wars is and who the characters are. I don't think the original films would be a good idea to show them, as I think they're probably a bit gory and won't hold their interest. I think there are some more modern cartoony star wars shows around now, but these are an unknown world for me.

Can anyone recommend something I could get as a DVD for them?

There's a lot of Lego Star Wars stuff knocking around - I can't remember if there's a cartoon version but that would probably be ideal.

DS has some Lego Star Wars DVDs that are good for introducing the characters without going into the dark storylines in too much detail. From memory they are the "new" characters rather than the original trilogy.

He is a huge Star Wars fan and can't wait for the new film neither can I

Mine liked the animated version of Clone Wars, and Ahsoka is a strong female character.

We've found a star wars cartoon, and lego starwars, on one of the sky channels this weekend - but I can't remember which channel

Thank you, that's really helpful! I'll start with some lego star wars and see how that goes down.

I often wonder how u would function without mn to answer my obscure and to many irrelevant questions!

Our children have all watched them from 2 or so, you may be surprised that they like them. Number 3 is a 12 rating but the others seem ok.

I'm probably alone on this but I absolutely wouldn't show them the films. DD is nearly 6 and she won't be seeing them for a while? Why? Because she's too young to get and appreciate them. When we saw Star Wars as kids (aged about 10ish) we were blown away, they were unbelievable, amazing, fantastic, the best thing ever. I just don't believe that children that young will get that, and in a way the films are ruined for them by seeing them before they can appreciate that.

We are massive Star Wars fans, we'll be seeing the new film on the opening weekend. But not DD. She can wait. But I know that on MN I'm the lone voice about DC seeing films too young so feel free to ignore!
