and he has pulled it to pieces. Completely re-worded it in parts, apparently it is not up to Year 2 standard. He has given me loads of pointers, ideas on what to include, where to look for reference material.

But its just so awful seeing it all in RED TEXT BOLD FONT ...where he has typed over everything.

he is the best tutor in the world and I know he is right but I am gutted, he even phoned me to tell me not to get upset when I opened the email but I am upset and now just wanna cry. Not like me

Well yes, if you've put a lot of work into it I can see how you are upset, anyone would be. BUT, he is your tutor and there for guidance, you said yourself you know he is right so put it behind you and take on board his comments. Good luck with the next one.

Dottydot · 01/12/2006 12:53

Awwww - sounds like he's trying to help, but it's not nice when you see your work being pulled apart like that... Kind of like when I write a proposal at work and my boss puts trillions of comments/amendments in.

I think you should get extra marks just for your fantastic Christmas name, which is brilliant!

CorrieDale · 01/12/2006 12:53

Awwww, have a cry. Get it over with it. Then put the essay away until Monday. THEN re-read it and the notes, and start on the next one.

Know how you feel though. I remember getting back a timed assignment to which the tutor had attached a sheet entitled 'An Idiot's Guide to Writing Essays, for the Terminally Thick with Bad Handwriting', or some such thing. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry (OK. I cried.)

Chin up... I know it's not easy..and believe me I've been there. My assignment last yr just got me 42% and I was devastated. I even contemplated giving up Uni.

Take his advice, can you re-write it & get given a better mark? Has he graded it yet??

christmosschops30 · 01/12/2006 12:54

no not the next one, I have to re-work this one and have a final draft into him by Friday next week. On top of working full time on a clinical placement

Get one of the double ended candles then!

Sounds like you don't have much of a choice ....

CorrieDale · 01/12/2006 12:57

look, if he didn't think you could do it, he wouldn't have annotated it so thoroughly. He clearly has enough confidence in you to spend the time properly going over it. And he definitely wouldn't have contacted you first about the email.

Don't do anything on it today - you won't be able to think straight. But tomorrow is another day... (and Sunday and Monday)

christmosschops30 · 01/12/2006 13:00

corriedale have just read your first post what a terrible thing to say!!!
yes i'm going to buy myself a pair of shoes today and then spend the rest of the weekend working on this.

Agree with CorrieDale -- he clearly thinks you've got the brains and the ability but aren't giving a true representation of what you can do with the essay as it is at the moment. If he'd thought you were a fluffy-brained incompetent then he wouldn't have bothered, so it's a compliment in a way (a slightly odd way, admittedly, but if you can think of it in those terms it may be easier).

christmosschops30 · 01/12/2006 13:03

aw thank you what a lovely thing to say.

My last assessment got 48% and I was gutted but my BIL (who got an upper first, student of year, 100% essays) looked at it and said that he could have just rearranged it - fixed my referencing and could have gotten an A with the same material which was reassuring. I am not stupid I just dont know how to write an essay! At leats you tutor has given you lots of constructive crit and pointers - use it to your advantage and you will ace the next one. Chin up
