Access to your DC's phone -- do you have it? Do you use it?

Our DD is 11 and has a phone, mainly for emergencies but also she texts friends on it. We know her login code, but don't 'snoop' very much.

How do you manage this scenario? Do you check your child's phone activity?

Yes, we have access.

It is an absolute condition for their owning their own tech until they reach the age of 16 that they share all passwords.

In practice, no I don't check it, because nothing about wider behaviour is currently giving me cause for concern.

(And the odd time a I have had a look, it's all been chat about obscure games which we knew they were playing, as now they're teens it's allowed in bedrooms but with a door-open rule. It was all terribly dull).

Thank you so much for the reply!

DS doesn't have a phone yet, as he's only 8, but when he does get one, I fully intend to insist on having access to it. There are too many ways that DC can get themselves in trouble with access to the internet etc for me to leave him to use it unsupervised when he is still young. I'm not sure yet how much checking I will do though.
