Surgical socks post birth advice

I know this isn't in the right place but I figured as the majority of people here will have given birth at some point.

Did you have to wear surgical socks post birth? If so how long for?

I've been told 6 weeks but that seems so long!'

I was told until I was back to 'normal' activity levels (whatever that means post baby)!

In reality, I was in hospital 6 days and stopped wearing them the day after I got home.

I took mine off as soon as I got home, 1 day after my section. I found them impossible to get back on by myself when it's hard to bend and my husband couldn't do it so I didn't bother. I was up and walking around anyway.

That's interesting. My midwife caught me without them on when she dud a visit and told be to put them back on. I just thought 6 weeks was a bit much!

I went barefoot after birth. Just don't wear normal socks as they can be slippery on smooth floors.

Kraggle · 21/09/2015 07:53

I was also told to use them until I had normal mobility back. Also had to have blood thinning injections ions administered at home. How I hated them and the socks!

Kraggle · 21/09/2015 07:53

Not sure where the random ions has come from!

I did it for six weeks after caesarean, night and day as they gave me a few pairs. I actually liked them in the end, made my legs feel really firm lol. But I do like spanx as well. i also did literally nothing and went nowhere for weeks like they told me. When I started going out and about again I was a wreck my fitness had gone down the drain. I think I took the advice too much to heart, I would just see how you get on I do remember that I was getting swelling in my feet if I took them off and the sexy socks reduced it quite well

Thanks everyone. Im on week 5 now so figured I'd just wear them at night for this last week. They actually keep my legs warm during night feed Grin

Wear them! I say that as someone who has had a life threatening pulmonary embolism (blood clots travelled from leg to lungs) 10 days after the birth. They are a precaution yes, but you just have no idea whether you are at risk from a clot. I wasn't high risk but still ended up in hospital and on blood thinners for a year.

Better safe than sorry.
