Best books to read to babies to calm them down ready to sleep?

I love reading to my baby (10 months old) but I find books for her age group incredibly boring!!

Does anyone read their baby books like Little House on the Prairie or Wind in the Willows?? 'Proper' books??? Do they like it?

I love baby books and don't find them boring, because the babies love them - well, mine did.

However, DH gets DS (3) off to sleep sometimes by reading whatever boring article or economics book he's reading at the time. He does get real stories first, this is just if he can't sleep and needs someone there.

Plenty of time for lovely children's book when the baby has grown up a bit.

My sister read my niece Harry Potter when it came out, she seemed to like it.

I don't really remember reading much to my son at this age, it was more picture books and making my own story up. If you want to read Little House on the Prairie, do it, they like the voice.
