Swim nappies

DS has hit 30lb and grown out of his Motherease medium swim nappy. I'm distraught, because it's gorgeous

I was going to buy him the next size up, but the nappy lady seems to suggest that the large isn't actually that much bigger than the medium and that normal toddler swimming trunks might be just as good.

So does he actually need a swim nappy?

Sorry, forgot to say - he's nearly 18mo and not even slightly potty trained

Lots of pools have a 3 year rule - anyone up to the age of 3, potty trained or not, has to wear a swim nappy.

If he's not potty trained, of course he needs one! I can't believe someone would suggest otherwise. They rarely poo in the pool but both DSs have done it at least once each and it would have been a disaster had they not been wearing a swim nappy.

does the mesh bit actually hold poo in significantly better than the normal fabric and an elasticated leg then? or is it just that the leg elastic wouldn't be tight enough?

In the nappy lady's defense, her website just says something to the effect that toddlers growing out of the large swim nappy could just use normal trunks. I guess most kids who have hit 35lbs or so are probably potty trained?

Can anyone suggest a good swim nappy that is likely to last DS a while? The ones that I've seen online seem to go up to about 35lbs - not sure how long that would realistically fit him (he's still got pretty chubby thighs )
