8 week old with a cold

My DP has a bad cold. We've tried keeping our eight week DD away from him, but this morning she has woken up with a cold anyway.

It's bank holiday Monday so any pharmacy is not likely to be open for another couple of hours. Is there anything we can try?

She was born on 4th of July so not quite two months. I understand babies have to be two months before they can have baby Calpol? Also, she hasn't had her immunisations yet, she's due to have them on Wednesday.

I don't think there is much you can give to be honest. You can get saline drops to help clear her nose and maybe try steaming a room if she is really congested? I would also mention it when she has her jabs (or maybe call before) as my dr wouldn't let DD have her 16 week jabs recently as she was poorly. I hope she feels better soon. It's horrible when they're not well!

Mine had a bad one at 5 days (thanks FIL!). You can get saline drops in supermarkets, and a device that you can suck the snot out with. Otherwise there isn't much you can do. Try putting the baby in the bathroom with the shower running as the steam can help clear the nose.

I second the snot sucker and saline drops but the tube sicker not the tt bulb type.
I know how you feel I can't believe people would choose to see newborns and risk them getting a cold over waiting a few weeks.

There should be a duty pharmacy open somewhere locally if you google so you can get some saline etc. Generally it is just a case of lots of cuddles and watching carefully.

If she has a blocked nose she may find it easier to feed little and often.

If your worried then don't hesitate to get her checked out.

Hope she feels better soon.

I bought calpol saline drops from tesco metro (they were on offer last week albeit not expensive anyway) . Also I second having a shower with baby in the room.

Put the Moses basket at a slight tilt so gravity can help her poor blocked nose. I also put a few drops of olbas on a muslin and put that over the edge of the basket but not too near and not where it could have landed on her face obvs.

If you've got any Vicks or Snufflebabe in you can pop some in a bowl/jug of boiling water and it acts like a vaporiser to help unblock their nose.
