What do you put on a changing mat?

i have a newborn boy and have discovered the fountain wee!

Tried wafting the nappy, tried cotton wool on his willy etc. I need 3 hands!
I catch most of the wee but if a bit goes through his legs it goes on the mat and he's soaked as it trickles up his back.

It was better with a towel under him to stop it trickling under his back.

So........ Is that the best way? On a towel? Or do you wise mums have any tips please before I buy a pack of cheap hand towels from primark.

Thanks.

I put DS on an old gym towel, also kept a collection of bar towels/flannels on hand, bigger and better than cotton wool for flinging on top.

It gets easier as you get quicker.

Good idea, I just hold old nappy over until he's done but towel would be more sure-fire!

My DSis used to stick a flannel over DN's willy. Worked a treat.

Muslins, as they way and dry so easily.

I bought a cheap pack of flannels from Ikea. It does get better! Is it happening at the start of the nappy change? My ds used to do this (think it was the cool air) so I used to hang on for a minute or two after I'd opened his nappy up.

Another one who uses a flannel or Cheeky Wipe (basically a small flannel). He doesn't do it so much now (10 weeks) but it was always hilarious when he got his too-slow dad right in the face Grin

We always had a towel in the changing mat. Then open the nappy, quick blow on the willy, close the nappy for a moment and he'd usually wee. If not I'd pop a wipe over his willy whilst changing, and if he didn't wee on that I'd use that one as the final wipe.

Wipe over willy. Lie on a muslin as dries much quicker than a towel

I just worked fast ???? DS was a doddle compared to DD... When girls wee on the changing table, it floods all the way up their back!

I'll try the muslins then, and work on my technique! Thank you Smile
