Does everyone use these? I didn't even know they existed! I've just been pulling the teats through with my thoroughly washed hands. Have i been doing wrong? Hmm

According to the instructions yes they should be used

I never did, as soon as the bottles are out the steriliser they are no longer sterling IMO

I have never seen or even heard of such a thing. Don't suppose many people use them 'cod I've never seen in a shop

MrsBalustradeLanyard · 19/08/2015 21:35

Meh, just use clean ish hands.

HelenF35 · 19/08/2015 21:40

Glad it's not just me! I use bottles for ebm and I don't sterilise my boobs!

Mine came with the steriliser too but I've never used them

silverglitterpisser · 19/08/2015 21:43

Never used them either.

Hackersschmakers · 21/08/2015 10:58

In my neurotic pfb days I used them, then I got hold of myself and used my hands!

fruitpastille · 21/08/2015 11:02

The sterilisation is only to kill off lingering milk bacteria. They don't have to be totally sterile after that iyswim.

AtSea1979 · 21/08/2015 11:04

Yes always used as they came with the steriliser. I used to sterilise them along with the bottles.

InQuiteAPickle · 21/08/2015 11:08

Babies, even newborns, suck their own hands so I see no reason why we can't use ours to pick a teat out of the steriliser.

lemoncordial · 21/08/2015 20:35

I just used my clean hands too. If I'd been bottle feeding from birth I might have used them for the first 6 weeks or so.

BertieBotts · 21/08/2015 20:48

You don't need to sterilise at all with expressed breast milk because it has antimicrobial properties or some such. Just wash thoroughly.

LHReturns · 21/08/2015 20:52

I religiously washed and sterilised the tongs along with the bottles for the entire first year.....but never actually used the tongs ONCE. Smile

VinylScratch · 21/08/2015 21:00

I used to pull the teat through before I started the steriliser, probably wrong but meh, never did my DC any harm.

LynetteScavo · 21/08/2015 21:13

Teat tongs were only invented to make parents feel guilty about one more thing IMO.

They're so much faff, you just use your hands and then feel guilty.
