Paints for a 1 year old

DS is turning 1 next week (eek) and I'm looking for some paints for him. He's still inclined to stick things in his mouth and also he's goinng to get covered in it I assume so what's the best non toxic and safe to ingest paint out there? I'm going to try to stop him eating but I'm realistic :) he's oainted a couple of times at nursery so I'd like to try it too (at least a couple of times until I think 'God, messy!' And stop it until he's older!)

I've just assumed that all small children's type paints are non-toxic. A lot of them say not for under 3s but I think that's because of the caps on the bottles rather than anything to do with the contents.
I got my 1 year old to do painting in the bath once on a rainy day (on a dry day I think outside is good), which did help contain the mess until I looked the other way for 5 seconds and he threw the paintbrush out of the bath.... He mainly painted the bath rather than the paper but he seemed to enjoy it. I took his clothes off so he was just in his nappy.

Yes, I am being a bit thrown by the ages on most paints being around 3. I've seen online recipes for edible paint such as adding food colouring to natural yoghurt but that'll make him smell all cheesy :) and you can't exactly keep the rank yoghurt paper (not that I'll be keeping all his 'art' but a first painting might get kept!)

I'd always assumed that the "0-3" warning was because of toddlers putting the kid in their mouths and have always used paints with this warning, like you say, it's on all of them. But do get washable paints, they're more expensive but the non-washable stuff really does stain.

I'll just get some then and not worry. Sure it doesn't taste great anyway so I doubt he'll be eating much! And in the bath with washable paint sounds like great ideas as I can clean him and the paint up easily.

DS had these when he was about 18 months the paint is thick enough that it doesn't spill. The reviews say it doesn't completely wash out of clothes, but I never had a problem, although it was 5 years ago.
