Car seat security?

hello, due to give birth any day hopefully! So we've practiced putting the car seat in the car. We've left it in there attached to the base so we can just jump in the car and go.

It's just occurred to me is this safe? Is this like leaving a sat nav or mobile phone on display?

I realise know one has a crystal ball and can't say if I'll be robbed, but is leaving a car seat in a car 'asking for the car to be broken into' ?

I left my car unlocked overnight, accidentally once. A few things were taken but neither my car seat nor expensive buggy were touched. I think, in most cases, thieves are looking for things that they can easily secrete as they continue looking for other victims rather than have to run off with on display. Does that make sense?

No, car seats stay in cars, nobody I know takes their seat in and out of the car! Blimey can you imagine dropping the kids at nursery, getting to work and making 3 separate trips for car to desk to lug 3 seats in for the day then the same in reverse? Where would they even go?

I take mine out but then I live in an area where things get nicked. The resale value isn't massive for car seats though, but there are a lot of buggy thefts if you've got a fashionable one

Oh yeah, I didn't think of nursery drop offs etc, and of cause when we go somewhere and use the carrycot part.

I actually realise that this was one of those daft questions! Ha

Once you get past infant seat, most are designed to stay in the car all the time anyway!

Is it a maxi cosi? Mine was heavy as fuck and if you tried to hold it and walk it smashed you in the knees.

I'd have loved to have watched a would be thief try to make off with it at speed. I think I would have wet myself laughing my pelvic floor is fucked

I wouldn't think it would be taken but just keep in mind if you have an accident it will need to be replaced and you may not want the stress if you are due to be give birth very soon. Obviously you'll have to drive it to hospital if you give birth there and I do hope you don't have an accident. It wasn't something I'd thought of until we were in a very minor accident and were still advised to change it.

Nah, you should be fine. If you think about it the next stage car seats remain in the car 24/7, how many thefts of car seats do you actually hear of? It's usually sat navs, phones, and other small gadgety type things that can be easily hidden and that have quite a high resale value.
