What do your toddlers obsess about?

Mine is only 15 months but in the last few weeks has developed an obsession with shoes. She toddles around looking for "shuz", hands me my shoes, my husband his, and WANTS her shoes on at all times (I like to keep them for outdoor only!). We've had tantrums over taking shoes off for bed and bath! "Shuz" is one of her very few words too!

Little girl aged 2.5 is obsessed with toy cars. Loves the word 'bum' and giggles when she hears anyone say 'yes, dear'

Shutting/slamming doors ConfusedGrin

Shoes here too. They end up everywhere she is obsessed with trying everybody's on. Also lego wheels, hats, capes, bears, socks, slides and vans.

With her brother it was bins, bin lorries and cars.

Littlef00t · 05/08/2015 21:08

Chairs here. Climbing on when she can, 'up up' when she can't. We bought a little table and later some chairs, which I had her sit in to test, but she lost it when I needed her to get off so we could actually buy them... There was an extra sit stop off on the grass by the car just to get back to the car park.

Ds is 22 months and quite simply his obsessions are my boobs and Pocoyo. Any chance he gets his hands are down my top. To make it worse we're currently on holiday so living in a bikini so his access is a million times easier. He has even started saying "boobies" when he wants them. Some kids have comfort blankets and teddies, mine has my boobs!

Norfolknway · 05/08/2015 23:59

Buses, wellies, cars and peppa pig.

CoodleMoodle · 06/08/2015 10:02

Stones. She collects them in a pot. She's channeling Makka Pakka.

Animals of any kind, but especially cats and rabbits. And dogs.

Feathers, and recently pine cones (which she used to be terrified of...).

She also went through a zip stage. She's coming up to 17 months now, and zips are boring!

dashoflime · 06/08/2015 10:08

Mine went through a "shoes" phase as well! He would walk around a busy shopping centre, delighted that everyone there was wearing shoes and pointing them all out. He once had a tantrum because he didn't want to go to soft play. What a terrible place- they make you take off shoes! We should have just had an outing to the shoe shop.
Thanks for reminding me of the shoe phase OP. I'm getting quite nostalgic.
Its dinosaurs now...Grin

Just shy of 3. I recognise a lot of the obsessions previous posters have listed, DS has gone through most of them. Currently:

  • "play cars"
  • "you say me find things" - there's a never ending game for you!
  • Peppa Pig - will quote from it liberally
  • Ben and Holly - as above. Currently turning people into a frog a lot
  • making cups of tea in his toy kitchen
  • boobies
  • "a bar" - those Goodies flapjack like oaty bars
  • Muesli
  • buses, especially double deckers
  • planes and where they might be going
  • "look at me"
GetTheFudgeOutOfRodge · 09/08/2015 01:08

DD must shut every door she sees, including baby gates. If you're not quick she'll run into a room and slam the door shut and won't let you push it open until you do the Sheldon knock from The Big Bang Theory. (With her name instead of Penny's, obviously Grin)

We also have to stop to say hello and wave at every pigeon we see. It takes quite a while to get anywhere!

CrimsonSunrise · 09/08/2015 08:30

DD1 is currently obsessed with:
Closing doors
Birds
Climbing stairs
Building bricks then taking them apart
Pretending to eat imaginary food
Shouting "granma" at everything
Chasing the cats around whenever they appear
Putting rubbish in the bin
Giving her Uncle Hi5s which is cute as hell, as soon as she sees him, she holds her hand up and grins like a mad thing

She also very recently start mimicking everything me or her dad do so for example if I faff with my hair or brush it she will copy me then giggle Grin

knittingbee · 09/08/2015 21:28

We also love shuz. And cheez. The mere sight of the grater is enough to send my 14mo into a desperate rant and many tears if cheez doesn't appear. Ditto bubbles.

ThisIsClemFandango · 09/08/2015 21:40

My 10 month old is toddling if that counts? Grin
His thing is boring plastic tubs and bottles.
Examples: his favourite is the tub of Sudocrem, he also likes the sun cream bottle, and in the bath he plays with bottles of shampoo and conditioner... (Lids all firmly on and he is supervised of course)
The Sudocrem tub is carried around a lot at the minute, and he will spend the best part of an hour looking at it, turning it around, rolling it... He is fascinated by it. I just don't get it, it's a boring grey tub!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 09/08/2015 21:59

Shoes, particularly wellies. Her own or mine/DH's
Tractors
Helicopters (huh-cuh)
Balls (particularly those that do not belong to her)
Climbing the big kid climbing frame (she is 19mo)
Wheels on the Bloody Bus. No other song comes close. No video/TV/film approaches it for sheer entrancement - there are some decidedly odd WotB vids on YouTube, and I believe we have seen them all.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 09/08/2015 22:06

2 year old DS - cars/lorries/telling anyone and everyone to "be careful"/trains/cleaning up "big messes" (ie one crumb)/reading the hungry caterpillar/chuggington
