Tantrums

My DD is 20 months and started having really awful tantrums - she literally screams and cries at the top of her voice, stamps, throws her toys, food etc. Nothing I do calms her so most of the time I just have to sit down and leave her to it. Is that the right thing to do? It's normally over nothing. I feel a bit like crying too as its stressing me out ????. I'm pregnant at the minute and feel a bit emotional about it. Anyway just looking for some reassurance and advice I'm hoping someone here has experience of how to deal with this problem. Thanks

Meant to say that after each tantrum has passed she's all smiles and happy to continue whatever she was doing before the meltdown.
