Longhaul travel at 6 weeks?

Can anyone tell me if I would be crazy to do this?
We're expecting our first and currently my MIL is having her 70th birthday 6 weeks after our due date. To attend will involve a 9 hr overnight flight as she lives overseas.
In some ways I think it would be a great chance to introduce the baby to wider family but I'm not sure whether the practicalities will be too hard. My husband can probably only go for 4 days so it'd be a very quick trip.

It will be our first child so I feel pretty clueless in general about what is and is not manageable!

It's easier the smaller they are. I'd do it.

I have no experience of a long haul flight with a baby but be done a long drive when Lo was 10 weeks old the drive was about 9 hours and had its bad moments Lo was sick in the back of the car so we had to stop and do a clean up in the rain. Am sure flying will be easier and if it's over night your Lo will sleep. I think it's advised to feed on take off and landing to avoid pains in ears, that my only tip

My friend did it, she moved abroad with a six week old. I have travelled loads with my kids and agree that it's easier the smaller they are. The issues would be whether you are still needing breastfeeding support at that time and whether you're feeling up to it depending on what kind of birth you have. But I agree they are extremely portable at that age. They just feed (a lot!) and sleep so you don't need to take tons of stuff with you if you're breastfeeding. I would do it personally.
I would definitely invest in a Baby Bjprn or similar baby carrier - extremely useful in airports!
You would bring tremendous joy to your MIL if you went I'm sure!!

The baby will need a passport and possibly a visa depending on the country. You can't get this until the baby is born. Baby might be born late so may only be 4 weeks old. It might be ok but if you end up having a c-section you may or may not be well enough to fly. I got an infection in my scar at 4 weeks, I need travel 4 hrs in a car to see a family member I felt yuck the whole weekend. I was my second but my first that I had breast fed. If it was 8 plus weeks after the due date I would say go for it but I think it might be just not possible with timing.
If your dh could save holiday or parent leave so you could stay longer.I guessing that there is also a time zone change as well.

Thanks so much everyone! A passport hadn't even occurred to me!
Think we'll play it by ear and maybe I can book last minute if timing of birth/recovery works

I have a 3 week old and getting out the house is a mission let alone a long haul flight. And tiredness through feeding every 2 hours is quite a factor. I guess it depends on what kind of a person you are though - for me it would seem much too much
