I've got 3 kids (dd 5, ds1 2.1 & ds2 12 weeks) and i really dont think i bath them enough! The two older ones fight like cat and dog in the bath and then have a hissy fit about getting hair washed etc! I probably only bath the older ones twice or three times a week? am i a bad mother? How often do you all do the bath thing?

Well having 4 (almost 5) there is no chance of every night! Usually every other day but thats only coz Dh does it every other morning. If it was left to me it would be about twice a week.
Dd1 is 11 and starting to get a bit sweaty ect... so she has one as often as she likes.

DS1 has a bath every other night (he probably could do with 2 a day, he gets filthy!)

DS2 has had 3 baths since he was born 11 weeks ago

hunkermunker · 21/11/2006 21:10

Every night - DH usually does it and I do post-bath feeding and story reading. Same as you, Forni - we didn't bath DS2 for about 6 weeks after he was born, then he'd come in with me. Was too cold to put him in the bath every night when he was born in January!

every night (4 and 2) but it is heading into summer here and they get so hot and sweaty.

niceglasses · 21/11/2006 21:11

Not nearly, anywhere near, no sirree , often enough. Quite like em smelly - smell like kids then.

Sheraz · 21/11/2006 21:13

Twice a week, with a few 'pommy' washes in between. Love that expression, got it off an Aussie pal. Means a good all over wash. Kids get grubby but not as whiffy as us grown ups.

Miaou · 21/11/2006 21:14

Ds (15 months) gets a bath every night. The dds (9 and 8) get dragged in twice a week under protest (then dragged out under protest too ... )

yeah, cheesy feet can be a universal non distinguisher of age. My ds1 also suffers - not helped by socks of 3 days old.

ellanatal · 21/11/2006 21:18

Californifrau - i think thats what my ds1 will be like - in the summer his feet absolutely hummed! i bathed him every night then!

DD (3.6) has showers with me 3-4 times a week. I find it quicker and we can both get done at the same time. She has a fetching Fimbles bath hat for when I don't need to wash her hair.

Baths were never part of her bedtime routine. She had one once before bed when she was tiny and screamed the place down - very unlike her, so as it suited me better to do it when we got up, and she was happier with it, we continued to do that.

She gets a good strip wash at night, unless we've been to the beach or she's filthy.

dd2 showers almost every day and dd1 3 times a weekish

opinionsrus · 21/11/2006 22:28

I never knew you "could" not bath them every night, as if it was some sort of rule that you had to.

Mine (age nearly 3) has had a bath every single night since birth - even with severe exczema which probably made it even worse looking back.

I think it was when the HV gave me the look of death when one morning she came round and he happened to have a tiny bit of last nights milk on his face. Put the fear of god into me every since, therefore bath every night even when I have been so ill - flu etc - that I can hardly get out of be myself. Crazy!!

terramum · 22/11/2006 00:04

DS (now 29 months) had a bath maybe once a fortnight, sometimes once a week when he was little. I defintely remember leaving him for as long as possible after he was born before he had his first...2-3 week I think. Now its about once a week, usually at his own request. His eczema gets worse every time he has a bath, even though we have only ever used plain water (no soaps, shampoos etc) so Im happy wo leave him as long as possible in between times. Im a great believer in letting the skins natural oils moisturising the skin & letting nature so its work. I think we bathe far to often nowadays with the moderen obsession with cleanliness, both from the point of view of water usage & skin care.

eidsvold · 22/11/2006 04:17

terramum - you have obviously not spent a summer with sweaty dirty kids - I mean a real summer - mid to high 30's with little ones getting very very sweaty heads. It is not the smell so much but the discomfort factor.

mamama · 22/11/2006 04:38

I just thought they had to be bathed every night. Never really considered it, it's just what we do - dinner, bath, story & bed.

DS gets really sticky though so needs to be hosed down before he goes to bed anyway.

ludalightsandlanterns · 22/11/2006 07:19

all 3 of mine..usually every other night..sometimes an extra one in the mornings if we have time and dd1 has a bad bed head!
(They all want to get in once the bath is run so its hard to do just one of them!)

Gemmitygem · 22/11/2006 08:09

every night.. he's 6 weeks old.

More for the enjoyment and giving him a bit of a different experience being in the water. DH wants me to actually wash him but only use a mild baby wash once a week, otherwise it's just oil in the bath..

dennya · 22/11/2006 08:15

Bath dd (20wks) every night. Helps with wind down routine and lavender baby massage wipes her out!!!! Would like to carry on doing it every night-but saying that I have not encountered any hissy fits yet!

throckenholt · 22/11/2006 09:13

when they feel like it, or when we think they need it. DH tends to be in charge of it (I find it really tedious . Probably 1-2 times a week (never stopped to count).

ratclare · 22/11/2006 09:16

ds 12 about three times a week ,dd 4 every night so i can comb through her hair for nits

ratclare · 22/11/2006 09:17

have to say didnt bath dd every night as a baby because i didnt want to dry her skin out and plus they dont get dirty do they
