What to do with only child??

So it's the six week holidays again.. Ugghh.
Don't get me wrong I love being able to spend more time with my son, I just don't know what to do with him. He's now 8, my DH works all day so it'll just be me and my son basically. We've recently moved so don't really know many people to do anything with. Can anyone suggest anything? Would really like to bond abit, since he's got older I feel like we're not very close anymore. Thanks.

Why don't you ask him what he'd like to do?

Thinks like hill walking or going for a long cycle give lots of time to talk.

Going to see a film and then going for lunch give you lots of time to chat about the film.

Does he like museums/art galleries etc?

Ask him, I'm sure he'll have some ideas.

What about his school friends? What are they up to?

DS and I go on camping trips, days out to local attractions, have picnics, watch films together. if you've recently moved does his room need decorating? That's something you could do together. Bike rides to explore your new area?

Does the council do any summer sports or activity camps? Our local gyms are doing activities for £1 - football, trampoline, tennis, gym...

Ds is a single child, we had friends over practically every day in the holidays. Nice for him and easier for me when he had company.

Geo-caching? Great opportunity for bonding. Also join, or visit the library, and explore the books there.
Are there parks, museums, attractions around? The National Trust, English Heritage and RHS offer children's activity days as do lots of attractions.

Maybe together come up with a list of ideas, write it up, and then over the summer you can do them and cross them off the list...

Ah thank you all for all the suggestions, I'll do that with him tomorrow sit and write things down! We have a dog so we can do a few walks.
He doesn't have many friends because of moving schools, I've asked him to invite some round but he says they don't want to
So he's stuck with me!
I've got him into a football club the week after next for a couple of days. It's just the rest of the time, I feel for him, at his age I was out with my mates everyday exploring and I feel like he's really missing out.

Camping in the garden, roasting marshmallows, making chalk and playing hopscotch, making your own "fair" type thing for when your oh comes home, making a den in the living room, creating a creature chart and going on a nature walk, decorating eggs, treasure hunt, the park. Lots of things :)

Although my son is only 6. He would love all those things. I don't know much about 8 year olds, maybe I've suggested things which are a tad too babyish
