8 month old off milk recently...

Hello everyone,

My 8 month old son loves solids! We started weaning at 6 months. He now has toast, porridge or weetabix for breakfast-I vary. Lunch he has leftover dinner or I make something up (pasta, sandwich ect) - dinners he eats what my husband and I do-he loves fish cakes/fingers, poached salmon, meatballs, rice, pasta, roast dinners, omelettes ect. He eats a wide range of fruit and vegetables. He has finger foods with meals-cucumber, cheese, broccoli ect and he loves Greek yogurt!

The past week he has been going off his milk. He has a morning and evening bottle and that's it. So he's having 12-14 oz a day. This has been the past week. I make cereal with his milk and also mash potato and he has yogurt and cheese but I mentioned all of this to HV and she just said he MUST have at least 16oz a day, preferably 20.

So now I'm really worrying! Any advice would be great please.

Just to add-he drinks water throughout the day-so I'm not concerned about dehydration- I know he's not. And he is perfectly well and happy. I'm just concerned after the HV comment.xx

I could have written this! DS2 is 8.5mo and in recent days seems hungrier than ever but not interested in milk at all during day (bfed).

I don't want to introduce snacks during the day because as you said I think he's supposed to still be having plenty of milk and I don't want to replace any more with solids.

He does still have a lot of milk at bedtime and throughout the night so he's probably getting enough over all but not sure how I can get him less hungry during the day....

Actually I remember 8 mo was when DS1 only became interested in food (they're so different...!) and dropped some milk feeds. Maybe this is a 'thing' at 8mo?

That's not very helpful of your hv. My son embraced solids and went off milk. We Were advised to sneak calcium into his meals. Everything had cheese or butter stirred in. He had loads of yoghurt and rice pudding.
After a while he went back to milk and I was a bit less mental about what he eats!

Really MioNome?! At least we know we are not alone! And yes, maybe just an 8 month trend! Xxx

Thank you KatyN, he does have a lot of calcium and I mentioned this (milk in cereal, mash, cheese, Greek yogurt) but she didn't see that as a positive step. Very frustrating! Xxx
