Parenting is sooooo draining sometimes

DD1 (7) has been diagnosed with tonsilitis this morning. We are going into our third night of very little sleep tonight. She has been very restless for the past two nights and dh and I are drained - clearly remembering how we felt when dds were babies .
DD1 was obviously off school today and I had to take a day off work to be home with her. DD2 went to school. Ever since DD2 has been home from school I have been rushed off my feet (probably feels worse as I am tired.
When will it ever end? Sigh!

aw sparkler, "being a mum is the hardest job in the whole world", that saying is sooooo true. hope dd1 feels a bit better tomorow, has she got antibiotics? my eldest suffered with tonsilitis till they removed them, very painful for the kids and awful for us parents watching them go through it. hopefully be the end of the week she'll be recovered and sleeping like an angel

It takes a while to catch up with sleep and fell normal again I'm afraid, and I speak from recent experience!

We had a bad night with DS (2.4)about 10 days ago when he was poorly (up from 3 am!) and the odd night of brief wakings and I still don't feel back to normal (whatever that is! )

You forget what the sleepless nights are like don't you?

Hi yes she is on antibiotics and that's another battle trying to get her to take it. She can't stand the taste of the stuff and we've only just started the bottle. Fun and games for the next few days with that one.
It seems like every two seconds they are calling mum today. Aaaaaaaaargggghhh. And there's no wine in the house either.

I went back to work about a month ago after being a SAHM for seven years. Trying to juggle motherhood with that is bad enough - now worrying about how to go about things with her being off school sick and how I'm to get to work. Luckily mum is coming over to sit with her tomorrow while I go in for four hours.

No wine here 7up - dh has gone out tonight as well so I can't even nip to the shop.

oh dear, cups of tea tonight for then you then sparkler. would have been nice to settle down with a glass of wine once you got dd settled though. are you mates with your neighbour, could they pop in for 5mins while you made a mercy dash to the local shop

Raid the cupboards -theres got to be something alcoholic or chocolatey somewhere.....

What do you mean it's draining "sometimes"? What isn't everybody else telling me??

Can you kick your DH into her bed and have her in with you? It's so much easier when you don't have to get out of bed to see to them and they seem to sleep better too.

morningsparkler,how was your night, dd any better?

I am really worried about my ability to be an effective parent. I am so exhausted and demoralised at the moment I just want to run away. I have a 2 and a 4 year old. 4 year old son just won't stop tormenting 2 year old daughter and yesterday I hit him twice out of anger. I feel awful because I never thought I would do this to my child. I seem incapable of patient, firm discipline at the moment. I find myself pleading or screaming at him. Advice?

Awww lou....no advice, just to let you know that my 4 year old seems to be tormenting my 2 year old, too....all the time and , like you, I find this incredible stressful and frustrating and there are days...weeks even...when I feel like walking out on the lot of them, sigh....Kids...who'd have them, eh
