Smelly 7 year old boy

My 7 (almost 8) year old son has just stepped into teh shower and as I lent over him to reach the shampoo he stunk! I have noticed him being smelly recently but this was quite an obvious smell.

Is it normal for 8 year old boys to be smelly? What deodrants can I buy him or is he too young for them all?

Admittidly he doesnt shower very often, about 3 times a week, I used to think this was ok but maybe he needs more now that he's getting older?

my ds1 is 7.6 and has days where he is quite sweaty and he notices this himself as well. We took him out and let him choose his own shower gel (think it was one of the morrisons own ones) and then let him choose a MANS one for special occassions like when we are going out to parties. but her is also getting ver particular about having a shower, brushing his teeth, having his own deodorant etc, general body stuff. We have bought him a couple of body sprays and shower gels for stocking fillers.
