2 week old, 2 days with no poop

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to post this.

My DS is two weeks today and hasn't pooped since an explosive nappy on Saturday night.

He is breastfed every 3 hours but is sick quite a lot after each feed. Should I increase his feeds or what else do you suggest to get him to poo?

Or should I get him to the Drs?

I'm a first time mum so everything is new to me!

when my DS was breastfed he would regularly go 5-6 days without pooing. if you are concerned though give your midwife/health visitor a call

Does he seem uncomfortable? If so, massaging his tummy can help. Also, move his legs up and down, towards his body then straight again.

If he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, I wouldn't worry. My ebf ds1 only poo'd once a week until he was on solids. The nurse told me that was just his routine and as long as he's not in obvious pain then it was nothing to worry about.

My ff DS went around 5 days without a poo, HV said give it another 24hours then give 10ml of cool boiled water. She wasn't at all concerned, so I wasn't. 2 days is ok from my experience.

Try the stomach massage and the leg trick as if he's riding a bike. I'm not sure If you can give bf babies water but check with the hv

I would breastfeed more often. 3 hours is a long time a that age. I would say every 2 hours if you aren't demand feeding and every 3 overnight.

Duggee I was thinking the same but my HV said that 3 hours between feeds was perfect, will increase his feeds from now on.

Why can't you give BF babies water? What's the problem?

Water can affect the baby's body ability to absorb the nutrients in breast milk. It can also cause their tummy to feel full, which might stop them wanting to feed.

Breast milk will have the perfect water content for the baby. The fire milk which comes first is thirst quenching (more in hot weather) and the the hind milk is more filling. When a baby is thirsty but not hungry it'll cry for milk and just take the foremilk and be satisfied. Whereas if it's hungry it'll feed for longer.

With formula the water content is always the same so in hot weather you need to give extra water too.

My son used to get really constipated. We tried the massaging, cycling legs but the only thing that used to help was boiled water with camomile tea bag in for about 3 mins so not too strong.
