7 month old scratching

My 7 month old scratches her head really badly when she is tired or when she is feeding/relaxed. So bad that there's cuts on her head and her scalp is peeling.

Her nails are always cut short but I don't know how else to stop her, the scratch mitts are no longer working as she's pulling them off.

Does anyone have any experience?

Hi I can sympathise as I went through this with my son.I can highly recommend scratch sleeves(should come up when you Google) they are mitts attached to sleeves that can't be pulled off. About a tenner and absolutely life changing!! Good luck hope you find something that works for you

Is her scalp peeling because of the scratching? I only ask as ds was a terrible scratcher and he had eczema which at first looked like peeling skin and must have itched like mad.

I'm not sure NickyEds, it looks more like cradle cap if I'm honest and when she's scratching it it's making it peel off, can cradle cap be itchy? it could be that. I am using den tomoz cradle cap shampoo but doesn't seem to be doing much.

When my son started scratching he had cradle cap which kind of turned into eczema, maybe your GP could have a look. I hope it's not eczema for your sakes though, but they do say prevention is better than cure, especially with eczema, so could be worth checking out. They can give you some cream to slather on the dry bits.

I've only ever really seen cradle cap under hair, is it on her forehead aswell? My sister swore by olive oil (she got it from the chemist) for cradle cap-just rub a little bit in gently. Dnephew did end up with very stuck up hair from it though! I also used nail clippers with ds. I don't think they're actually recommended but they were the only way to get his nails really short. I was very careful though!

My DS just used to pull his ear and scratch his ear when he was going to sleep. He just wanted to fiddle with something. I ended up giving him a Muslin to fiddle with when he is going to sleep and now he uses that instead. Took a while though, but it's nice for him to have a comforter and better than scratching himself.
