5yr old having frequent nosebleeds

DS1 has started having lots of nosebleeds in the past 10days - sometimes 2 or 3 times a day! I didn't realise how bad it was until this morning when his TA told me how many he has at school. She said he sometimes picks his nose but I've not noticed him doing this. Should I take him to the gp? Anyone else had experience of this?

Both my dds have this. One of them it always happened when the weather as warm.
The GP doesn't do anything about it - just tells you some dc get them.
Just teach them how to deal with them and make sure they have tissues to hand (dd2 sleeps with a toilet roll by her bedside )

Does he have a cold or hay fever? If his sinuses are inflamed this will irritate the lining of his nose. If he is scraping his nose with fingernails you should be able to see a graze or cut.

My DS had frequent nosebleeds, sometimes lasting more than half an hour: the NHS website advises that a GP had to be contacted about those.

DS was checked a few times after several colds with green snot but then had a huge nosebleed while he'd slept. It was quite alarming and an antibiotic cream was prescribed. DS has now gone a month without a single nosebleed: he had a lower nasal infection.

Hmmm I haven't noticed him being particularly sneezy lately. The one he had yesterday after tea didn't last too long but there was quite a lot of blood. I might get him checked but expecting the gp to just say it's one of those things. Or maybe that's just time wasting?

My dd had this last summer. Went to the gp and got some cream to stick up the nose as they thought it was probably an infection. Sure enough the nose bleeds stopped.

My friend at school had this a lot when we were little , it was hay fever.

ds had loads when he was little.

It was worse when the weather turned hot (or cold)

But also, once he had one, he then had loads for 2-3 weeks, I think because the scab inside the nose kept coming off and it bled again and so it took longer until it was properly healed. Then he would be nosebleed free for few months, until the weather changed again!

My mum was a nose bleeder and so was my youngest. My mum had her nose cauterised regularly, but fortunately they don't do that now. They both grew out of it eventually, so I would leave well alone.
