Can you prevent your baby from getting chicken pox?

Chicken pox is going round ds2 class his best friend came out in them yesterday, although my ds hasn't come out in any spots yet nor has he been ill I'm sure he's bound to get them soon.
Ds3 Is only 17 weeks old is there anyway I can prevent him getting them too or is there a chance he could still have my immunity from it?
Also my sister is 7 months pregnant should I keep ds2 away from her as a precaution?

It depends if she's had chicken pox before or not, they do a blood test at booking if she's never had it, so best to ask her. I'm not immune and pregnant and am worried about catching it, but apart from never going to kid's things, there's not a lot you can do unfortunately

I'm not sure the vaccine wouldn't be too late as sounds like her DS has already been exposed to it. I think kids are contagious before the spots appear?

We'd been planning to get dd vaccinated for CP but hadn't gotten round to it. Of course,it then started going round nursery.

The vaccine is 2 injections. We had the first one straight away. Apparently it does give some immediate protection and if they get it, it should be less severe. You have a second vaccine 12 weeks later. We've only had out first so far and as yet, she's been fine. 2nd injection in 3 weeks.

DC need to be over 1yo to get vaccinated do you couldn't do the baby. For us each injection cost £100.

For your sister, best to get her to speak to her midwife.

If your BF and you have had chicken pox yourself, your baby will get antibodies through your breast milk which will offer some protection.

When my DS2 was 3 days old my DS1 had an awful bout if chicken pox. I was BF and the GP also told me that when babies are born they only get Mothers full immunity for three weeks.

I'm not bf so I assume baby still doesn't have my immunity . Ds2 fell asleep straight after school although he seems happy enough now eating drinking ok and no temp I have found 1 little spot on him I'll have to check for more in the morning
