Tell me I'm not alone?!

DS is almost 8 months, adorable obviously, but, at the moment he has a slight cold and is trying to crawl. Now, he has been trying to crawl for over a month, I think he's close to mastering it, but sweet fuck, I'm about to lose it if I have to listen to the frustrated whining for very much longer.

It starts almost as soon as he wakens and doesn't fucking stop ALL DAY LONG.

It's driving me insane, not helped by his increased (and vocal) night wakenings.

Tell me I'm not alone. I'm with him all day everyday, and have no family nearby and DH works very long hours.

Not alone, I have a four month old who has just discovered she can make a delightful whinging noise. She is lovely unless making this noise. It goes straight through me

It's horrendous. They go through spells of noises. Some days it's whining, some it's hooting, some it's screeching. It does grate dreadfully.

Oh good!! Why did evolution decide that these noises were something advantageous?! Seriously babies, think of the predators. My DS would definitely have been eaten by now.

Im relieved it isnt just me too. People look at me like Im a terrible person when my 4 month old is shouting at me when we're out and about and I say things like "good lord, give me some peace baby", little do they know that I get that shouting all day everyday. I though it was adorable at first too!! Maybe if she slept for longer than 2 hours at a time I would still think it was adorable.

On a practical level, just put in earphones and listen to music on your iPod. Wrap the cord round so it's behind your head so baby won't grab them. BINGO. Relaxed happy mummy, baby can whinge on all he likes and you will only hear the important cries. Thank god for modern technology.

Ps Luckystar - You're funny that really made me laugh about your son being eaten. I often wonder how the hell the human race has survived with our bloody annoying loud children.

You are not alone. DD has recently discovered she can make a high pitched shriek that makes me want to peel my own ears off. Let this be a short phase....

Oh mine hasn't grown out of it yet (age 9.) If they're loud and whingey, I'm afraid they stay loud and whingey. I have honestly never heard a child as loud as mine.

16 month DS likes to squeal. Loudly. His 3 year old sister then likes to join in.
They then conduct what appears to be a squealing contest.

You need some time away from him. Find a swimming pool or gym where you can put him in a crèche for an hour or two and go chill.

18mo DS2 perfected the most shrill high pitched shriek at about 8mo. He's showing no signs of getting bored of it yet either
Frankly I'd be amazed any predator would get close enough to eat him without their eardrums bleeding.

Ha... DD has learnt to crawl and climb. I don't get a moment to sit still anymore :(

Oh good idea about headphones, clearly the whining has pierced my brain too...

I'm going to pretend I didn't read about this not being a phase, it must be, isn't everything a phase?! I've been lied to!!!

hth. ds went through an ear piercing glass shattering screaming phase which I always blamed on his reflux. my df has never let me forget how terrible that was and how "highly strung" ds was/is.

Yes I know what you mean Rachie I tend to not really speak to anyone about how much he drives me to the very brink because I don't want him to be labelled. It's frustrating too in a way, as I then feel like I have no where to turn for a reality check!

luckystar1 Me too! Exactly the sane thing, DS is 9 months and although always starts to learn something new quickly takes ages to master it and the frustrated whine is continuous in the meantime. Its crawling at the moment too, I know I shouldn't wish for him to be (more) mobile but if the whining would stop I'd be happy!

You are definitely not alone... I sometimes say to my ds 23 months when he's being particularly whiney " oh do shut the fuck upsy" but in a giggle biz style so it's doesn't seem so wrong.. makes me laugh anyway

I have one just the same!!! On the verge of crawling, and gets so frustrated he can't get to what he wants. So he'll just gave off! Usually until mummy give him the toy he's after!

My ds is 18 months and can whine indefinitely. It's odd but when my sister's kids were little I could listen to their whining for ages and it wouldn't bother me but ds's... sweet jesus it drives me crazy-genetically programmed to bore into your brain.

Hahaha I do that swearing in a friendly voice too. He doesn't know what I'm saying and I feel better. It's not up there with the world's best parenting....!!

I feel much better that I'm not alone! I'm absolutely dreading the terrible 2s!

You are not alone! My 20 month old can't talk. The eh eh eh eh eh sound she makes stays in my brain and makes me want to stick pins in my ears. And eyes.

Oh god! The eh, eh, eh I can hear it too. Nooooooooo, unbearable. Give me your pins when you're finished!
