Going out.

My delightful ,easy 7 year old does not enjoy going out anywhere. This is not a problem.Does anyone else have ADC like this?

Do you mean it is a problem rather than isn't ?

It's not a problem.I have teen babysitters.He would rather constantly be at home.

Isn't that difficult though? What do you do after school? What about in the holidays?

Personally I would try and get them out a bit more. Could you get a routine of say bike ride every Monday evening and walk in park on Wednesdays after school for example to start with.

I would find that very constricting, teenagers surely aren't around all the time either as they are surely out also.

Pretty much just to sleep. We picnic dinner out a lot, even homework done in parks/ fields

What does he dislike about it? DS(6) often objects to being away from his electronics, but this IMO is a great reason to encourage him to get out.

There are some things he likes more than others. He prefers a walk in the woods or a cycle to shopping. He likes going to the library if he can swap his books, not so much if it's for me.

I do think that as a family it's a good idea to get them used to doing things they don't necessarily want to do, as practise for compromising generally.

He gets plenty of outside play in the garden He may have slight ASD.There is always someone around He will go to the park etc,but would rater be at home. I just wanted to know if other children were like this Thanks for the replies.

If he does have ASD, or social communication difficulties, his interests might well be more limited because of this. Also if he struggles with social interaction etc (not assuming he does btw, but just wondering as of course it's a usual impairment with ASD) he's prob quite daunted by things that involve interacting with the outside world. What does he do at home?

Lots of small figure playing He loves all the teenagers in the house.He is very gentle,very happy.

My eldest is like this. She has AS.
When she was younger she used to meltdown about going out, she was Just so anxious about it.
She's calmer now about going places, but she'd still rather be home in her own environment.
