i have a nearly 4 week old baby and hes my first. when he has a pooey nappy i like to wear gloves, so i can take them off when i fasten him up, so i dont get poop on his clothes. i change his nappy for just a wee wee and people i know think im weird because i wash my hands or use hand sanitzer after i change him, saying just get on with it, didnt do you lot any harm not washing after. (i had GAD and worry about everything, i have thoughts that go overboard, for example if i didnt wash my hands something really bad will happen, if i got the tinyest bit of poop on my babys clothes and dont change him again something bad will happen to him).
surely what i do isnt too over board, is it?
they always say wash your hands after changing a nappy. like you would the toilet.

I'm not sure how you're doing it, but I very rarely get poo on my hands when I change a nappy, and if I do I wipe it off before I touch the baby's clothes. So I'm not sure why you'd need gloves...

Washing your hands after every happy change is normal- and recommended I don't think that's overboard at all.

Gloves is a bit overkill to my mind. How about putting baby safely on the floor once he's in the new clean nappy and then washing hands before going back to him to do up/redress him. That's what I do if I know it's been a horrible nappy and my hands definitely aren't clean. If I've been 'lucky' I re dress him then wash hands.

I definitely wash my hands after changing a nappy. It's like going to the toilet, like you say.

I certainly don't change after every wee though!!! That would be VERY expensive and time consuming. It's up to you of course but I hope you realise nearly all modern nappies actually keep them 'dry' so he will rarely actually be wet.

Wearing gloves is a little unusual, and unnecessary, but if it makes you happy then why not. I would wash my hands after changing a nappy just as I would after going to the loo myself, so that seems normal. Although, you don't need to if you've been wearing gloves!

I'm assuming you haven't had an explosive poo yet, that seeps through all layers of clothes before you can change them?!
