Advice needed! DS keeps falling over and hurting himself

help! DS is my first so I'm clueless about this stage. A few weeks ago he started pulling himself up to stand and climbing on things. He's a very active little boy so he's doing this all day. The problem is hes falling and banging his head. We've got a playpen but I can't keep him in that all day and I've tried to baby proof as much as possible but he just finds something else that I hadn't thought of. And I can't always get to him quickly enough to catch him. Does anyone else have a very active little one? What did you do? When can you start to teach them that some things are not safe (DS is only 8 months and doesn't seem to understand)? Will he ever understand the word No?! Thanks for your help/ideas!!

Just do what you can & try to keep them safe & away from sharp corners. You will rapidly become an anti-fan of hard floors.

I never knew that it wasn't instinctive to put hands out when they fell, they actually do have to learn that the hard way.

Some of them are still doing this at 7yo (sigh).

Agree, you just need to child-proof the house as much as possible , cover up sharp corners and keep a close eye. It doesn't last for ever as they will soon find new and more interesting ways of putting themselves in danger.

"No" in toddler-speak means something is very exciting and must be done quickly especially if mum is rushing towards me. It also means if I continue to do it I will get mum's attention. It is a very good word!
