Meeting new people in new area

I'm a 27 year old mum of 2 under 4 and I've recently moved near Newton Abbot. I am a very chatty person once I know people but struggle going out and meeting new people on my own. I really want my kids to the make friends and settle in quickly but feel my scardy cat nature is preventing them from integrating as much as they could. I would love to meet some local mums too for me to chat with but find it a bit daunting meeting groups of people. Any tips on friendly places to go to meet people?

Toddler groups?
Try your nearest Mumsnet local site too.

Usually nct groups are good for meeting new people.

Anything to do with the kids - an instant topic of conversation. Surestart centre, MN local, toddler groups, baby swimming, yoga, local park, junior church if that's your thing. Let them make friends, grit your teeth and tag along.

Should get even easier when the older one starts school.

Can I ask whereabouts near to Newton you are? Kingskerswell? Heathfield? Bovey?

I know the area ridiculously well, have just moved from there, and have a toddler so can give you some ideas Smile
