anyone else practically have to force their dc to do their homework? I'm sure the teacher will soon realise that it's me completing half the work. the 'learning log' is a particular nuisance

How old, and how much do they have to do? Is it worth establishing one or two 'homework nights' a week?

Im a teacher and found homework an endless battle with foster child, to the point we gave up! I am, both a failure as a foster carer and a teacher! Blush

It was traumatic everytime we attempted it and to be fair some of the homework she got, in my opinion, was homework for homeworks sake. We always read and tried to learn spellings but even they got ridiculous, she struggled to spell where, there, what, when etc but had spellings like questionaire, irresponsible, optional. I complained but they didnt change much and it really impacted her self esteem, trying hard to learn them and then not scoring well in the test. I have very mixed opinions about how effective homework actually is and believe if it really causes problems at home, it offers no value what so ever, especially when children are very young.

So dont woryy op, however much of a struggle you find it, remember there are those of us (in theory) that should do better and dont! Grin x
