Bed guards vs foam wedges

Hi, does anyone have any experience please? I think we are almost ready to take the side off DD's cot, and looking at our options, as I think that she is likely to fall out pretty regularly as she moves around a lot. I think she is nearly tall enough to climb out, hence us thinking about taking the side off.
Have seen foam wedges that kind of go under the sheet, or a traditional bed guard - does anyone have any recommendations or advice?

How low to the floor is the mattress? Our cot bed is very low so I didn't use anything. Ds fell out once with no injuries and that was it. Lesson learnt! He was 2.3 btw.

Also, I found that bed guards (well the Lindam ones anyway) don't fit to wooden slatted beds, only divan types where the mattress sits flat on the base with no lip/ledge around it.

About 40cm probably, so no injuries I would have thought, but high enough to wake her up!

Didn't think about the bed guards not fitting wooden slatted beds, that's what we have, so perhaps not suitable anyway...

We used foam wedges and thought they were pretty good, as the Lindam doesn't fit every bed.

We've used both and I would say that a basic Argos bed guard fitted well on a cot with wooden slats, leaving a toddler sized gap at the foot end to wiggle out of.

But for a single bed I prefer the wedge, as you can lie or sit on it for bedtime stories. You do need a fairly deep fitted sheet, though.

Roll up a towel lengthways and put it under the fitted sheet at the edge of the bed. Worked for us.

We have a wooden slat normal size single bed and Lindam bed guard fits fine

We got a length of pipe insulation and put it under the fitted sheet. Or a pool noodle.

We use a pool noodle too. Wriggly dd moved into a bed at 20 months and has never once fallen out.

We use a pool noodle too, it works most of the time and if she goes get over it we have a big cushion at the side of her bed for her to land on. I've found her fast asleep on the cushion a couple if times

We have the foam wedge for home and use a rolled up towel when we travel. Works very well for toddler bed, single bed or double. DS has never fallen out with it in place.

We used a metal framed bed guard for DD (now 5.5) and it was ok but during the bedtime wars that followed taking the side off her cot she did have a habit of grabbing it and rattling it which did not help the stress of the situation! So we're using the foam wedge for DS and four months in it's working really well.

I would just put a nice sheepskin fluffy rug on the floor and hope for the best! You can add extra pillows or folded duvet also the first few days
