Sleeping monitoring

Hi all

I'm really keen to get a Snuzpod. I am also really keen to get a movement monitor like Angelcare but I have read conflicting info about whether the two are compatible due to the solid base needed and space for wires. Has anyone used both together?

Also I just saw a RespiSense monitor which you clip to the nappy - does anyone have any experience of this? Or is this monitoring experience too far!

I have a repiscense and used it for both my dd and now ds. It worked great as long as you put it on correctly. It was very reassuring. It was also small and battery operated (clips onto the nappy) and so we could use it easily in the carry cot, travel cot and cot with no hassle to change it over. Did however stop using it with dd when she started rolling to sleep on her tummy as we were then unsure where to clip it.

Cannot compare it to mat as never used one.

I think the Lullaby Trust advise against movement monitors - on the grounds that they don't prevent SIDS and cause a lot of anxiety when they alarm incorrectly. I'd link but as I'm on my phone I can't, but a quick Google should help you find their website.

We have a Snuzpod and an angel care movement monitor. They seem to work fine and we got the wires around no probs (well DP did while I held the newborn baby, nothing if unprepared was us!).

I've got a snuzpod and tommee tippee sensor mat and it's fine. Also used an angel care til it broke down (third baby used for lol).

I think it's more for piece of mind especially when the baby is tiny. With my first I was terrified to sleep but hearing the beep to show her breathing helped me to sleep.

Roseybee -that's what I thought and I have read stories on here from women saying the monitor did alert them to a real period of non breathing.

I thought the reason they don't really advise to use them was in case people over rely on them and become complacent about the other safety measures which could obviously be dangerous.

Interestingly if you are unfortunate enough to have suffered a cot death the Lullaby Trust lend out breathing monitors for subsequent babies as part if their CONI programme with the NHS. So they must have some value?

I agree with Roseybee. I have the angelcare one. I follow the SIDS guidelines and having the monitor doesn't change that one bit. The only difference is that I can sleep better as I know if the alarm hasn't gone off then she is still breathing. It doesn't stop me checking on her, it just makes me more relaxed. The alarm actually did go off one night but I knew instinctively before I went to her that she was fine, she had just wriggled to the top of the cot. I agree that could be a real scare but it has only happened once compared to the feeling of peace of mind I get the rest of the time.

Hmmm...well. Diamonds are expensive, and don't make a blind bit of difference to SIDS. I don't put them in my babies' room either.

But why do the Lullaby Trust/NHS provide them for free to people who have suffered a SIDS with a previous baby if they're of no value?
