Mattress on floor for toddler?

My toddler is about to move out of her cot and we are considering starting her with just a single mattress on the floor. Is there anything wrong with this? We'll then get a proper bed frame when she's older.

I did this with DD1 and it was great! I wasn't worried about her falling off, and she could still get up safely and come to me if she wanted to. I think it's a great idea.

Did you just get a normal mattress?

Ah good- I wondered if it was just a weird idea I'd had.

I did this for about 18 months with my dc's cot mattress. She settled on it much better than in the cot and I hated putting her in the cot anyway. It felt like putting an animal in a cage!

I did this for both of mine, not a mad idea at all Smile

I only gave them one flat pillow to start.

We did this too. As Hoolit says, one flat pillow, and a duvet appropriate to the temperature in the bedroom and bedclothes worn.
