New baby gift for my toddler

My dd will be 2.8 when her new sibling arrives in July. We would like to buy her something nice as a present as she's already a bit worked up about it and being 'special'. Not sure what I get her what do your toddlers like? She already has baby and pushchair, some happyland bits, bricks and Lego, plastic food and a small kitchen, lots of jigsaws, a table and chairs. Although we have outside space it is a sloped Garden so a trampoline will be difficult. She is quite girly I suppose likes pink and princesses but equally happy to play with cars and get muddy. Would love to know what your little ones love

I've got an eye on this big stuffed dinosaur for DD when DS is born.

I wouldn't bother tbh.... Ds dormt seem bothered about his gift from dd! He liked it but it made no difference IMO

We got DD a train track from ikea for DS due in 3 weeks. She's really into a book called 'there's a house inside my mummy' about a little boy getting a baby brother, and it shows him playing with one and says how he'll teach him one day Grin so thought that would be nice as a gift she can play with him when he's a bit older

I am getting DD a few new books. It's something we can share together, quietly if necessary of baby is feeding or I'm recovering

DearGirl · 28/04/2015 19:55

What about something like an aqua draw - so she can do it alongside you while you feed the baby :)

Acunningruse · 28/04/2015 20:18

I would get her some accessories for her doll, like a baby bath, changing bag, toy bottles etc so she can look after her baby while you change newborn? Might not work but worth a try I reckon.

An 'I'm a big sister' t-shirt goes down well. All the visitors will coo over her then not just the new arrival.
DD1 was extremely proud of hers.

We got DD1 a bed for her baby doll so she could get her baby ready for bed when I was getting my baby into bed. She seemed to like it.

Yy to books, big sister t shirt and any toys which don't need too much input (gifts of beads and baking kits were generous but annoying (to my sleep deprived ratty brain).
We also bought a lovely sequin bag and gave her a pack of wipes and nappies and some, non-staining, nappy cream. So she could helpfully hand me nappies and wipes if she felt inclined. Or waste them on her dollies if she preferred. And bought off amazon a set of black and white baby books with a pre cut mobile which she could assembled with her daddy for the baby. Was much admired.
I also kept some small gifts in for husband to handover subtly to her when visitors cooed over the baby and gave gifts for him but didn't have any for her. Just in a distraction way, obviously not trying to show guests that they might have upset her.
She still remembers receiving his gift and choosing one for her and he turned two recently. I still remember my doll and giving my baby brother a giraffe and I am 36!

ds got a cozy coupe car from dd when she was born. He was definitely more excited about the car... Grin one year on and she's loving it too, so definitely a good investment. Congratulations, that's the same age gap as us and I'll say no more!

Thanks for all your ideas; I shall take Inspiration. And thanks misty haha, I hope to survive Wink

When we had number 2, the new baby bought his big sister a doll's house. On the first day while I was still in hospital, big sister went with Daddy to get some furniture for it. Huge success.
