FTM with a 5 week old and wonder a couple of things:

  1. When did people start using water wipes instead of cotton wool and water? Are there major cons to the wipes? Sick of the cotton pads but not to the extent of causing negative effects for DS
  1. When you give your babies cooled boiled water (I need to use it to dissolve gaviscon), how long to allow yourself to use the water before you reboil? Could I boil enough water for a whole day's worth of gaviscon and keep it with me?

Just not sure what's 'too much'??

Thanks

I used cotton wool for about 4 weeks with dd1, straight to wipes with dd2 lol.
I wouldn't reboil old water tbh. If you're leaving it in the kettle I would make a fresh lot each time. If you're keeping it in a sealed container then I'd probably leave it 4-6 hours.

cotton wool and water until he was about 2 or 3 weeks. now using water wipes (get them from Boots...Parenting club points too) and have just ordered another box load for the next couple of months. ds is 10 weeks. water wipes probably are a pfb thing but I used ultra sensitive with extra sensitivity on the side wipes and he came out in a rash. Will probably use normal wipes when out and water wipes at home just to transition over as they are a lot more expensive but worth it I think.

Used cotton wool pads for a week or 2 then water wipes or Jackson reece. DD is prone to bum hole chafing (terrifying blood in nappy but basically just tiny fissure from a big poo) so when she has one were back to cotton wool and water grr.

I used the suitable-from-birth wipes, well, from birth. I soon switched to washable wipes and water because I get wet wipe rage when they all come out the packet at once. But I use washable nappies, so it makes sense.
I would try to freshly boiled water but probably wouldn't worry much. I can't remember what I did in those circumstances, probably made myself a cup of tea at the same time Wink
